Seriously, I thought we've come far enough as a society where we can look at each other as equals regardless of our backgrounds.  He's a basketball coach, if he can win us games I would love to have him here. Who cares what god he believes in or where his ancestors are from.

There are some posters on these boards who are genuine racists.
If Greenberg is hired they'll have to decide if they hate more than they love SJU bball.

Actually, the argument should be made for neither.

Willard took a bad team and made them good again. Pecora did the same thing in a tougher conference.
Still, I want a guy from a high major program who's had experience competing against the type of team we have not been able to beat.

Seth Greenberg is on the lower half of "home runs' candidates, but as of late, he's done very well at Va Tech. Billy Donovan, Rick Pitino etc. These are the names we should be starting with.

Agreed?

Great post, posion. These guys are aiming too low. St Johns is going to need a big name to consistently contend

Quite frankly, I'm not that interested in Greenberg, either.  I think he'll do a reasonable job, but I have a hard time believing we'll consistently be a top 5 team with Greenberg.

We'll probably hover right below that level, with an occasional top 5 finish.  I'd take Pecora and Willard over Greenberg.  And, those guys are actually in my second tier of coaches I want at St. John's.  I also think those two guys have higher ceilings than Greenberg at the moment.

The guys who I really want are McCaffery, Donahue, Gregory or Donovan.  I know Donovan is probably more of a longshot, but he's at the very, top of my list (followed by Donahue, McCaffery and Gregory).

Go after those four coaches and then shift attention elsewhere, if they turn it down.

I really don't get all this love for Greenberg...his teams play ugly until he got M. Delaney.  He's alright but I think I would rather Pecora...he really wants to be here and that makes a big difference.

Norm also really wanted to be here.  Seth would give us instant credibility and a consistent winner.

This is the Big east, we need a bigger name

I was talking in terms of Seth over Pecora, but in all honesty Greenberg is the biggest name we are capable of getting with our budget and the current state of the program.

OH my bad, I'd take Norm over Pecora. As PMG said,Pecora's pining for the Fordham job. We're so phucked, we have mid major coaches declining our offers "no interest"

Also I feel it wouldn't be too bad of a idea to try and get mark jackson in as an asst. What h.s point guard wouldn't want to learn uder mj that would be an ideal move imo

Let's not get crazy with Amaker hahaha, he made the tourney just once in 8 seasons he was eligible to with power conference teams and his in-game coaching makes Norm look like John Wooden.

What High School PG has ever seen Mark Jackson play? They know him as Van Gundy's funny sidekick in those NBA winnebago commercials.  HS kids probably have no idea who Chris Mullin is either. Gonna throw Jackson out there as a 1st time coach against Boeheim, drunk Calhoun and Elvis Huggins? Airplane Jackson should check himself and go coach with Bobby Leckie at Loughlin for a few years

O and I'm. 18..deffinetly know who mark jackson is growin up pacers bulls and utah were the best teams pretty much every year..

mark jacksons career ended 6 years ago..high school point guars are well aware of who he is...I agree with matt...cause if i was a HS point guard being recruited by him..how could u pass that up..guy was an assist machine

Asst coach no doubt, but do you actually think he'll pursue that job? As for best PG of all time, cmon man. He was # 3 on Louies list coming out of HS behin Pearl and Kenny Smith
