Big East 2010-2011

Where do you see us in the Big East next year??  So many players have left schools that I feel like it is natural for us to move up (granted I think most of us thought that last year).  I was just looking at all the teams and really only Pittsburgh looks to have a real strong returning group.  Think of all the games last year that we had leads at the half or later and turn those into wins with a better coach and we can really be looking into something special. 

I see us on the bubble.

Pitt is returning a lot, but remember last off season when the board said that Pittsburgh and Marquette weren't going to be good because they lost so much talent? They simply played guys who waited their turn, and reloaded to fill positions.

We'll need to see who is returning for us, what recruit(s) are signing on, and what kind of program that Lavin has for them in the off season. Whatever it is, I sure hope it's better than Norm Roberts' off season plan which consisted of nothing at all.

My guess all things things considered is 9th.

I really think that besides the top 3 and Depaul last year all teams were real equal and it was just a matter of coaching which we were severely behind in.  There wasn't one game besides Syracuse where we had no chance to win the game.  My biggest fear is the teams reaction to Lavin and how they respond to a different coach.  Being mostly seniors you'd assume they'd suck it up and work hard to leave as winners but you never know as I'm sure many of them had strong feelings towards Norm.

The players that aren't going to welcome Lavin with open arms, can transfer right this minute. They were loyal to him, but me, it doesn't mean they should be given credit for it.

If anything, the players will learn how much Roberts wronged them by not making adjustments.

I knew he would be but I thought I read he declared for the draft (which would have been confusing since the other Chris Wright did too).  Maybe it was I that was confused by the Chris Wright switcheroo.

I don't think Chris Wright can hack it in the NBDL. Seriously, he'd be out of his mind to leave.

It is still devoid of players, though, and increasingly irrelevant (if not completely so) in the Big East and in New York, where it only plays in a legendary building which also hosts the conference tournament every year. Making St. John's relevant again doesn't seem like such an insurmountable challenge, but whether Lavin can shake off seven years in analyst chairs and off sidelines (and recruiting trails) to do it is the big question. Whatever he does, don't bet on him doing it overnight. This might be a three-conference-win team.

Geez I think that is a little pessimistic.  I don't think Lavin will be able to turn this around in a year but I sure as hell see more than 3 conference wins next year.

Depaul 13th? That's psychotic. They had one half way decent player in Koshwal. Not a good player, but a decent player, and he's leaving.

Those rankings are an absolute joke. DePaul, Rutgers, and Seton Hall will all be rebuilding next year and will finish in the bottom 3. I think Louisville, Notre Dame, and Cincinatti will be down and PC, SJU, and Uconn will move up. SJU will finish between 7th-9th, 15th is ridiculous whoever wrote that list doesnt know the Big East.

I predict 7th and a NCAA appearance even if they keep it at 65.

We are definitely better then- Depaul, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Providence, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, and South Florida. We could be better then- UCONN, Marquette, and Louisville. We are not as talented as the top teams, but we have experience. I think it would be a very poor showing if we didn't finish in the top half with a realistic chance to finish in top 5. Maybe I am being totally unrealistic but I am expecting a HUGE season.

We are not as talented as the top teams, but we have experience. I think it would be a very poor showing if we didn't finish in the top half with a realistic chance to finish in top 5. Maybe I am being totally unrealistic but I am expecting a HUGE season.

we'll def be better than marquette and potentially better than louisville. im thinking we'll finish somewhere between 6 and 9.

I'd have to say somewhere between 5th and 8th. Maybe I'm a bit optimistic but the only teams I think will finish ahead of us is Syracuse, Pitt, Villanova and West Virginia. UConn looks pretty good but Calgoon seems to be losing it a bit. I can't see us realistically finishing below 8th. As most people mentioned Rutgers, DePaul, Seton Hall, USF just aren't in a position to succeed. Notre Dame and Providence don't look too promising either. GTown is definitely down and I think Marquette peaked last year. Where does that leave us? In the NCAA tourney in a wide open Big East!
