Like I said dont worry about ASU. Heard last night if visit goes well hes 100% signing here. Gotten a lot of questions about if he qualify and I dont know but I have heard he doesnt know yet but he expects he will indeed be able to play next yr. Post more when I find out for sure.

does anyone think the seismic shift that is about to happen to college athletics will have any effect on remi's decision? will he find a pac-16 more attractive with the texas schools then he might have found the pac-10? will fears of a BE collapse scare him off at all if cuse, rutgers, pitt head to the big 10 soon to be big 16? what are peoples thoughts?

Do you think he is even aware of this lol?

I just don't know if a 17-18 yr old grasps all of that or cares about that. Still even if the Pac-10 turns into Pac-16 I don't see that meaning much for college hoops. Its all about football.

You're also a huge college basketball fan and not a prospective division 1 athlete. I doubt Remi Barry reads sites like this daily. Thats my only point. I don't think it factors into his recruiting much.

Aren't you the same guy that scolded posters over the years for being negative on the site and how that would affect potential recruits, because they read the site.  If your specifically saying Remi doesn't read the site, well, not sure how you know that.   i'm sure he knows what's going on.  I don't think it would affect his decision though,  so i guess, i agree, sort of.

Considering any shift in conference can be anywhere from 3-5 years off from things I've read and heard it really shouldnt affect him in particular.

A note on whether a kid would notice the conference alignment - it doesn't directly affect them, whereas what people are saying about the specific program COULD have an affect (sometimes not via the player themselves but their parents, friends, coaches trying to get the inside info).  And if Remi was considering Kansas, the realignment might mean something.  But for St. John's vs. UCLA, not really.

If the Big East breaks up, some of the football schools (like Cincy, possibly W. VA) will be screwed.  But the basketball-only schools will find their way; Marquette/ Georgetown/ Villanova are marquee programs, they're not going to ramp up to really good D-1 football nor will they go to Conference USA.  So if they need a basketball conference, they will have tradition-rich friends like St. John's right there with them*.  Seton Hall, DePaul, and Providence will be right along there, most likely.  And a number of other schools can be fit in there.

*One can debate St. John's role/ importance in this, but I really believe that as bball-only schools go, St. John's rich, rich tradition coupled with a New York City market makes the Red Storm extremely hard to kick to the curb.

I do believe that kids read about themselves and glance over things but threads that concern the business side of conference alignments meh not so much. Does that make some more sense?

the thread has gone in a little diff direction, and i dont feel like going back and reading all 7 pages, so excuse me if it was already discussed, but is there any way if he comes he doesnt start next year?  i havent forgotten about dj but if barry comes im assuming dj moves to SG, where he would play if he went pro anyway...or could we play barry and justin down low, and boothe, hardy/horne, and dj?...what do u guys think

Lots of ways.  He'll a freshman who hasn't played competitive ball in a year besides some AAU contests. He's joining a team with 9 seniors.  He might not even be fully eligible.  He's not a point guard or a center, where the team is weaker, and at his size, I don;t see him playing PF.  Maybe DJ can, but that's not a good solution for every game play.  So unless he blows one of DJ/ Horne/ Hardy out of the water, I just don't see it.

He'll get some run, though.  DJ may not play ironman minutes and there will be other minutes to allocate (Omari's, Mase's, etc.)

http://www.zagsblog.com/2010/06/16/barry-to-decide-after-st-johns-visit/#more-35417

Remi Barry lives in California but he’s rooting for the Boston Celtics to win the NBA championship on Thursday night.

“I just want them to win because they have Rajon Rondo,” Barry said Wednesday night by phone.

By the time the 6-foot-7, 220-pound Barry boards a plane to New York on Saturday, he will know whether the Celtics or Lakers are world champs.

Barry also hopes to know after his visit whether he will pick St. John’s, UCLA or Arizona State as his college destination.

“I still have no idea,” Barry said. “I’m not going to Arizona State for sure, I’m not going to UCLA for sure. It depends on what’s going to happen this weekend and where I feel most comfortable.”

Barry, a French national from Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro High who is said to have NBA potential, visited Arizona State last weekend and said he had a great time.

“It was great,” he said. “I had such a good time. I had a great feeling with Arizona State. I feel comfortable over there. The coaching staff, I had a good chemistry with the guys over there. They really liked me. I played with them and I did really, really good.”

Arizona State recently got commitments from forwards Kyle Cain of New Hampton (N.H.) Prep and Carrick Felix of the College of Southern Idaho, but Barry said that won’t impact his decision.

“Not at all,” he said.

He has been to New York City before but never to the St. John’s campus.

Barry and new St. John’s coach Steve Lavin have struck up a chemistry and Doc Haynes, Barry’s AAU coach, previously said St. John’s was the “frontrunner” for Barry.

“I had a really good relationship with him,” Barry said of Lavin. “He’s a great guy. He’s a true guy. He won’t lie to you.”

Barry said he plans to decide within a week after the St. John’s visit. He will consult with Chris Hendricks, with whom he lives, and his family back in France.

“I look forward to go to St. John’s and compare to UCLA and Arizona State and then I make my decision,” he said.

As for concerns about whether he’ll be eligible, Barry insists he will.

“I really hope so,” he said. “They [my coaches] hope so, too. We all hope so. No one knows but the NCAA. Hopefully the NCAA will clear me.”

Redshirt?  Does that mean they think he won't qualify?
