Paris Horne

Does he look like the odd man out here? Hardy should start, with Paris battling for bench minutes. Thoughts?

  He'll get 10-15 minutes a game.  Which is probably what he should be getting at the BE level.

Depending on the emphasis on defense vs. offense. Hardy's defense... I think Marillac pointed it out fairly often, it needs some work.

Depends on how many thousand free throws a day he takes over the summer.

Hardy can shoot, no one else on this team can. I am pretty sure starting or not he will play more than the 22 minutes that HE WHO SHALL FROM NOW ON REMAIN NAMELESS thought to play him.

I think Polee comes off the bench and plays 10-15 minutes a game. I think this kid can be huge on help defense with his leaping abilities. Him and Coker can do some damage with regards to blocking shoots.

Bad idea.  We need >30 mins. for my favorite player Paris "Hilton" Horne.

Paris was very good two years ago. Last year with less playing time he was OK at times and awful at times. He forced to many shots and made a lot of bad decsions. He also missed like a dunk a game! Coach never took him out after a bad shot, so Paris kept taking bad shots. Part of the reason I think he played so poorly last year was because he was worried Hardy coming in and taking his minutes. 

When Hardy is on he is great. When he is off he doesnt offer much. He was great in a few games but invisible in others. Norm didn't run many plays for Hardy. When he did they were at obvious times. The team didnt do a very good job of getting him open, but I don't think he ran off the screens tough enough. He has to want to get open almost like Reggie Miller.

Both of these players are ok. Neither is great in my opinion. Everyone loves Hardy because he can shoot and everone else cant. All these guys have a clean slate. Lets get our best players on the floor. DJ can play the 2/3 and even the 4. Brownlee can play the 3/4. Let them compete (in practice). In games everyone should have roles. Roles that have been earned. Hardy (3 point shooter) Paris (not a 3 point shooter). If Paris or anyone want to play more or expand their role they have to play better and SMARTER in practice and in games. Evans cant go coast to coast any more. If he does he sits. If Brownlee comes in and misses a 3 pointer by a yard he sits. More importantly both Brownlee and Evans will hopefully know going in what they can and cant do because their coaches will have told them that already from practice.

Going to the point of getting the best players on the court, why not think abt throwing DJ at the point for some minutes if teams dont want to press and run with us.  That can allow Hardy and Horne to play at the same time and keep size up front. 

As i see it we are going to turn the ball over no matter who plays pg b/c that's been the trend.  I think what you can gain offensively is greater than what you lose defensively without Boothe. 

OSU did it with Turner (not comparing him to DJ talentwise) so they could keep Diebler and Lighty on the court.  It's the same idea. 

You'd have to suppress DJ's slasher instincts.  Which might be good - if anyone else can step up and score.  I think he made a lot of plays, but sometimes, he could have looked for the pass. 

I think Hardy will get the brunt of the minutes at the two, but he'll also see time at point.  Horne will get his minutes because he is our best defender and second best shooter. 

Hardy can flatout score and he did so last season without the benefit of any help from the coaching staff to free him up.  They might have run him of a screen here and there, but almost all of his scoring came from him firing somewhat contested shots or creating with the ball--which he showed flashes of absolute brilliance doing at time.

If we are going to press and run for 40 minutes, Horne will be indespensable.  I honestly see no reason we don't run.  We have a team that is generally much more athletic than they are skilled.   We have forwards (even before, but now especially with Polee) that can outrun any other team's forwards and it's not even close.

i agree...but when you defend...you force the coach to find you minutes..paris will not be the odd man out...he will get his minutes

i really think the weight that paris added last offseason affected his play. he went from jumping out of the gym to missing dunks, from nailing big shots over guys to poor fading bricks.

if he gets his game back to where it was, hardy wont start over him. hardy is better suited for the instant offense role.

Tony,great job in this thread. Both Horne and Hardy sure seem to be inconsistent, I guess Lavin will stick with the hot hand. These guys will be battliing in pracice

What is your opinion of Hines so far?? Everyone seems to be raving about him.

I feel like Paris is the type of kid all these coaches fall in love with.  I am not suprised at all to hear that.  Hardy also appears to be a gym rat so that isn't much of a suprise either.  Plus I'm sure Hines has a thing for guards a little more then bigs from his own experience.

The key is to not remove the after they miss a shot or two.  The last thing you want a shooter to do is question himself and lose confidence.  I've seen too many great shooters do poorly because they thought/knew they'd get pulled if they missed.

If we run there will be minutes for almost everyone.  We have crazy depth.  I think the only real odd man out will be Rob at the four and either Omari or Q at the 2/3.  More likely than not it will be Q.
