• Nick Johnson is the son of Joey Johnson (brother of ex-NBA player Dennis Johnson).

According to the ESPN story, Nick Johnson is working on his point guard skills.

He also recently mentioned that the Johnnies are still one of the schools who are pursuing him the hardest.

Arizona, Arizona State, St. John's, Oklahoma State and UConn have been tracking Nick Johnson the most.

Keep it up, Lavin (and staff)!

Someone tell him to stop.  I want him as a SG.

LOL  I like the idea that he's working on his point guard skills.  He could end up being a combo guard on the collegiate level.  Not to mention, it'll help him going forward to have point guard skills, if he has NBA aspirations (which I bet he does).

No, we want his point guard skills. First, skills are good.  Second, at his size, being able to run a team will get him to the NBA. Third, St. John's isn't in on many elite PGs this year, and I don't really think any of them are suiting up for the Red; having one of the shooting guards the school is interested in capable of playing the PG means you can sell playing time and roster space to Mo Harkless, Mike Taylor, Jakarr Sampson, and other 2/3 swingman types!

Have you checked out the recruit listing lately?  Its all PGs...Whether any of them come who knows?

Of course there is nothing wrong with him developing PG skills...especially if he has NBA aspirations.  But some of these guys are SGs and should be developed as SGs.  Its almost like being labeled a SG has become a bad thing in recent years.  Nothing wrong with being versatile but I also don't think there is anything wrong with being a shooting guard.  It seems like all SGs want to be combo guards.  How about being a plain old SG?

See my previous post...

"Of course there is nothing wrong with him developing PG skills"

I just find it funny that these high school kids are almost afraid of being called a shooting guard.  They all want to be called combo guards to market themselves.  What's wrong with being just a shooting guard?

Nothing if you are at least 6'4 or preferably 6'5 or 6'6.  At 6'3 (which is probably slightly taller than actual height) you could be considered underized for a SG when the NBA looks at you.  That's why becoming a "combo guard" or "point guard" will help.

I understand all that...you guys are reading into my post too much.  Again I just find it funny how the high school kids seem to be so afraid to be labeled a SG.  As if an NBA scout is going to seem them listed as a SG and not draft them no matter what their skill set is.

For all I know Johnson will be a better PG than SG so this was not directed at him.

I hear you, Jumpin.  It's true, but I also think it's HS level ball - if you're 6'1 to 6'4 in basketball height but you can score like nobody's business, you know that you're not getting to the NBA as a SG (and even if you do, there's little chance of success), but based on the height available on that level, you're playing SG or even SF.

Johnson, a tremendous playmaker and defender, said he is considering Arizona,  Arizona State, St. John’s, UConn, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Louisville.

A Phoenix native whose mother still lives there, Johnson is seriously considering Arizona.

“U of A has definitely been on me the hardest,” he said.

He plans to cut his list later this summer.

“After this tournament, I’m going to narrow it down,” Johnson said.

If you're wondering why coaches have flocked to AAU games involving the Oakland Soldiers this summer, highlights like this emphatic half-court alley-oop should serve as sufficient explanation.

Findlay Prep shooting guard Nick Johnson catches a 50-foot pass from a teammate in mid-air and throws down a smooth two-handed reverse alley-oop slam during a Peach Jam game on Monday in Augusta. Then, like a true showman, he finishes the play off with a smile and a salute to the camera.

Straight up, I'm gonna be a little mournful if we can't convince him to come to St. John's.  A bit of a jokester, a little salute at the end, good defense, hops, and an all-around game... nice.
