Add Dixon, Pittsburgh Coach.

Dixon probably most of all, having already lost Rohrssen.

Calhoun, Huggy Bear and Jay Wright have taken the most NYC kids from our backyard.

Boeheim only took Mookie Jones, so I doubt he's too worried. He gets his players from all over.

I also think some of the ACC schools that have been stealing are no longer going to get players so easily.

Add Dixon, Pittsburgh Coach.

Oh, that's right. Him, too. Norm really helped a lot of programs take the next step.

Hey Dave, you are one of the few dudes on this blog who actually knows ball. I respect that. But remember 10 scholarships available. @ at every position. Not all your guys u bring in will be 5 star, or 4 star even. You need guys for insurance and practice. You need guys  to push your very good players in practice. Sledge just might come. One thing I give Lavin, he is no dummy and has a plan. Let him rock.

I think those guys you say we need (and I agree) will be rounded out with JUCO players and not 4 year guys. I'm pretty confident that Jevon Thomas is coming on board and may be what Kemba Walker was to UConn his freshman year when Price and Dyson were there. We'll see how it shakes though. I like Sledge a lot but I just see us recruiting over him at this point in time but I'd certainly welcome Sledge with open arms.

I guarantee Sledge won't be coming to St. John's because St. John's will be getting more talented guys. This is no slight to Sledge because I love his style of play but from what I heard today the staff is very confident with a number of players to commit very soon (no I can't elaborate yet). Also what I heard isn't based off what Nate Blue said either an additional source.

manbearbig says he predicts harrison and garrett commit soon. totally unsubstantiated predictions but why not have some fun

manbearpig is going to be on the money.

That smell is coming from the Big East coaches who just shit themselves! St Johns basketball is back. Thanks for cleaning it up Norm and paving the way for Lavin to come in and put the hammer down

First off, this is the happiest I have been about the program since the second round Gonzaga upset. I would love a 20-22 win season and an 8/9 seed. Team has no point guard and players with three years of losing and misery, so my expectations for the upcoming year are a bit guarded.
Regardles, the team is def going in the right direction and I am looking forward to the games.

The part about "Thanks Norm" is a crock of course. If they were going to throw away six seasons on terrible basketball they should have just hired a cop or a nun to coach. Lavin needs three years min to undo the Norm mess!

Hopefully, your sources are correct.  And if Sledge isnt good enough talent wise than i guess that would insinuate a better pg like THarpe, Cook or Cezar are on the way.  I'd bet on THarpe.

Time will tell but i am getting excited regardless.

We are sju, it appears that Lavin has taken all of the time he needs to undo the mess that Norm Roberts left.

We have not pulled in two top 100 recruits in one summer in ten years. I am a Lavin believer. Norm is a distant memory now.

I just think we might struggle this year and I think people are going to have unrealistic expectations as far as wins. I would be ecstatic with an NCAA berth, but not devasted if we don't get one. Next year no matter who he gets the team will be young and new so it is hard to predict how things will go. Year three is really where you hope to see MAJOR progress.

With some chatter of Garrett possibly committing, what impact would that have on Sampson?  Are they a similar type of player?  Would there be a preference?

If Norm Roberts had the kids ready for Providence and Seton Hall at home, Rutgers on the road, and Cornell in the Holiday Festival, we'd have made the dance. That was all coaching.

Plus, we've added a top 100 talent, a year of experience, and the conference has lost a lot of talent & experience.

I seriously hope this staff can close on better than Sledge.

Team has no point guard

Boothe averaged 7 points and 5 assists (vs 2 to) over his last 10 games, shooting 50 percent from the floor. That's not great but it's good enough. He can only improve in a structured offense. Or an offense for that matter.

The cast of Jersey Shore are better basketball coaches than Norm. Lavin is a huge upgrade, but he is inheriting a flawed roster w/o a point guard that has known nothing but losing. Sometimes you have to change the atmosphere before the coaching can kick in. I just hope people understand just how crappy a program we have been and "Rome wasn't built in a day." I think we at least have the right architect though.

Honestly it is tough to judge any of the the Norm leftovers. I will concede that much.

Overall, the last few games, like Marquette and Memphis, I remembered Boothe playing well enough. Not amazing, but was one of the better players on the floor.

Not a top flight pg, but he'll be a senior, and with 8 additional seniors the NCAA Tourney should be our expectation.

Talent has always been an issue, but these kids are good enough to play in the BE. We need a coach to get them to play well at the same time.

In a strong offensive scheme maybe we will finally see the player that was an outstanding high school distrubtor.

Boothe played solid at the end of the year and if Stith improves a bit the biggest problem on the court will not be point guard.

I believe that; I think Boothe isn't anything spectacular, but coming out of high school he did have some ability.  (And here, I thought you thought he was just hopeless!)

I expect Boothe to perform well this year. If we make it to the dance he's got the right attitude - fearless and a pit bull when healthy.

Boothe averaged about 6 points and 3 assists over his first eleven games. He injured his groin late December and played sparingly (around 20 minutes or less) and poorly for a dozen games. He started playing well - and 30 minutes pg - in mid February. It seems to me that 5 or 6 weeks in about how long a groin pull takes to heal. It could be that he had improved somewhat entering his junior year and the injury clouded his form. I think he might surprise. If he was a horse I'd take a flier on him.
