Can Whitehead be used in the same sentence as Lance Stephenson as a high school player?

Not even close. Lance is turning himself into a pretty nice NBA player early in his career

Lance took time to become an NBA player. He had to sit and watch for years.

There are "for years"  -- like 6 or 7; and, in Lance's case, "for years" --2 years. In retrospect, just 2 years doesn't seem like much, and "for years" seems like an exaggeration.

This WOULD have been his senior year of college.   "Sit for years" does indeed seem an exaggeration - he pocketed $2.5 million while learning his craft, rather than spending 3 years in Cincinatti for free.

Good point. Lance had a liitle luck on his side with Danny Granger getting hurt which provide Lance playing time to show case his skills for his next contract. A lot of time guys who come out early do not get the chance and never see that 2nd Contract.

Lance needed to mature and learn how to be a professional. He got lucky that he was in the perect enviorment for that but to his credit he was receptive.

Yes, agreed. 2 isn't very long. IMO he came up w so much hype that I expected a better college player, and a great pro from day 1. He was more of a project. It looks like he's arrived. Still, from his season at Cincinatti until now, he needed to get better. Now, he is finally playing like the guy we read about, but IMO it took 4 years including this one.

He has gotten better, and I don't want to throw water on his coming out party; but I need to see more than rebounding from a starting shooting guard in the NBA.

Don't forget he shot 4-13 last night including 1-7 from 3pt, and didn't get to the line at all in 34mins.    He's playing better and Im happy for him.   But it's still a work in progress.

How many great rookies are there every year? This year I would say there was only one great rookie.

" Five-star shooting guard Isaiah Whitehead is built to score. He's a rangy 6-foot-4 wing who can handle the ball and is stronger than you realize. Whitehead isn't a high flyer, but he is athletic and has the ability to take contact without losing speed. When he heats up from 3-point range, he's a load to handle.

A teammate of Whitehead's on the New Jersey Playaz, Isaiah Briscoe, is a class of 2015 five-star. Briscoe wasn't his usual self on Saturday. He lists offers from Syracuse, Baylor, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Miami, Cincinnati and Villanova."

Isaiah Whitehead, 6′-5″, SG, 2014, Lincoln (NY)/Juice – When prospects blow up early on during their high school tenure, they can be forgotten later on, or diminished due to their game being overexposed. That may have happened to Whitehead, who was a top 10 prospect nationally as a high school freshman, and has declined in most player rankings since then. Still, Whitehead is a terrific shooting guard prospect that has steady gotten better, though that improvement may not have actually netted him as much recognition as he’s arguably due. He’s a better all-around guard than he’s ever been, with a more consistent shot, better heads up play and all-around skills. Whitehead is a legitimate top 25 player nationally, and probably should be getting more acclaim than he is for his play as of late (he also impressed when we saw him at the Dallas EYBL).

ISAIAH WHITEHEAD - G - 2014 - JUICE ALL-STARS
6-4 - LINCOLN H.S. - BROOKLYN, NY
Whitehead was sensational throughout the Under Armour Invitational, starting on the right foot Friday night with a major 23 points 7 rebounds 3 assists and 4 steals output that might rival the best of the weekend. He hit a turnaround, fade away jumper in the closing minutes that game that was more than impressive and his strength and determination all game-long leave little to be desired. Whitehead also had another game with 17 points and was consistent throughout the event, leading Juice deep into the tourney.
