Kids want to play with their old coach.  That doesn't surprise me.
And Tiny's been a successful basketball coach at the HS level.   It's not like hes unqualified to be a D1 assistant.

The classless move here is letting go of an assistant you just hired, for the purpose of signing a kid.   If they had an opening on their staff this wouldn't look nearly as bad.  At least in my eyes.

Is there an NCAA rule about how many coaching/staff spots a team is permitted to have?  Point is, why does SHU have to fire anyone to bring Tiny on?

Nah on this one wasju I would have personally slapped the hell out of Lav if he hired tiny. It wouldn't have worked and his personality is just as big as Lav. It would have been world war 3 in that office. If its true its the right decision

Lavin doesn't play that game.  Remember Tiny openly campaigned for the SJU job last year after Dunlap left.  Quite frankly it was unseemly.

It's not illegal, so we really shouldn't bitch and moan about it..   Is it a bit shady and underhanded?  Maybe.. but it isn't against any recruiting laws..

but Sanchez missed a whole entire season over bs.. NCAA in general, is as corrupt as it gets.. not Seton Hall.

Like when people bitch about how the Yankees spend all this money and buy championships....  True, but completely within the rules... and I'm a diehard Mets fan...

I agree.  It's not that he's going to the Hall in a package deal with Tiny that has me agitated.  It's the way that it would appear we were manipulated to either force Hall into a job offer or use SJUs media exposure.  Or both.

Like others said, it has been happening forever.  I'm just curious who Seton Hall gets rid of from its staff -- Shaheen, Hill or Antigua.  The latter two were only recently hired, so that is a pretty gutless and shady thing to do to them.

Their board said they had 2 open spots

Their board must be smoking today.  They have a full staff as Antigua was their last hire.  Would I be shocked if Antigua drops to DOBO?  Of course not.

By the way everyone still want Hall to be good in this conference?  The conference need bottom dwellers and I hope its them.

Does that impact the signing if Delgado?

Post

Lincoln star Isaiah Whitehead is expected to announce his commitment to Seton Hall at a press conference at the Coney Island high school later Thursday afternoon, multiple sources have told The Post.
Whitehead, a consensus five-star recruit ranked 12th in the country by Scout.com, will pick the Pirates over St. John’s, Indiana, Pittsburgh and Minnesota, a major commitment for head coach Kevin Willard on the heels of a big summer.
Lincoln head coach Dwayne “Tiny” Morton is expected to join Willard’s staff as an assistant coach next season, sources have told The Post, an added benefit in Whitehead’s eyes. The standout shooting guard was taught by Morton in middle school and also has spent his entire career with the Juice All-Stars, Morton’s AAU program.

Some have speculated that he won't qualify.

No. Tiny may help him gain eligibility though. Ha

I would like them to be good.  It is in the best interest of the conference.  The alleged combo deal with Tiny is not classy but it is legal. Honestly, if I was in Wilalrd's position I would have done the same thing.  We're not talking about just a good recruit...it is a program-changer.

Lavin and SJU are in a different spot.

Not sure if its accurate, but still

The scoop 24ish hours ago was that St. John's would also have a job available for Tiny Morton w the blessing of Under Armour.

I agree they had a golden card we couldnt offer.  But Lance went to Cincy without a Tiny job linked to it.  I doubt Tiny was a consideration for any of the other schools in the chase.

Hell I'm holding out sliver of hope its all part of the circus and we're laughing in an hour.

Just don't like how IW went about this.

St. John's apparently backed off in the summer.  You call them and tell them you are visiting on Wednesday and choosing on Thursday.  And then you turn around and basically use them as leverage to get what you wanted out of Seton Hall.

Yes, it's legal under NCAA standards.  But it's classless for all parties involved, including IW.

So if the rumors are true that they are hiring tiny's son, what role is he taking?

He's a player at Lincoln too

Confused, is he a senior? I thought they only had one scholarship and that would be for IW. Would they really boot another player just to get Tiny's son?

Don't know what year he is honestly.   But if Delgado rumors of not qualifying are true than viola.

How do they have 2 spots when they already have Freddy Hilll, Holloway and Antigua?.  At best they have 1 if they jettison Antigua or relegate him to DOBO.  They'd still have to jettison Holloway I believe.
