Very simply stated if Lavin hired Tiny SJU gets Whitehead.

That simple.  But SHU knew that was not going to happen, Lavin has a great staff and he doesn't fit what he is looking for anyway.

Lavs doesn't play that game nor should he.

If you read Morton's quote closely he said he spoke to Lavin and Lavin had him going everywhere and he asked him why he doesn't have a position for him at St John's. Sounds to me like Lavin was trying to get an assistant's job for Tiny somewhere else so he could land IW but Tiny wanted something big locally. Just what I read into his quote who knows if it is even accurate or true.

The way I kind of interpreted it was Lavin saying to him " you have a bright future you're going places. Just not on my staff " kind of thing

Lavin basically blowing him off by saying nice things to him hoping he leaves him alone about adding him to his staff

Maybe I misinterpreted it

I interpreted it the same way.

The quote wasn't crystal clear but I didn't see it that way.  Lavin did not entertain the idea of adding him to the staff to get IW.

I didn't say he considered adding him to our staff I said he may have networked to see if he could find him a job else where but who knows about anything really with the circus created by IW's recruitment.

Yeah but why would he consider finding him a job elsewhere though?  Coaches help former players and former coaches.  I can't see Lavin helping him land somewhere.

Sina, Whitehead, Delgado, and Morton's kid...   Correct me if I'm wrong  ( I don't follow this stuff too closely)  That's 4 players brought into SH as part of package deals with their Hs coaches?

I forgot Sina was kind of a package with Hill.

Damn Willard is going to have to start wearing a brown suit because he handles more packages than UPS

Spoke to someone extensively today who is very close to the situation. St. John's could of had whitehead. They just didn't recruit him. They shoes away from the package deal from jump street. Instead lavin suggested making a recommendation fr an under armour gig but that wasn't good enough. St. John's was in the lead once boheim told Isaiah he might not start his freshman year. But even then lavin was up front in saying he would start but may not b the focal point. And that's where things died down. Seton hall was the choice even before the visit. All the visit was for is to see if lav would up the stakes seton hall had already offered. But lav didn't go for it. The package to seton hall had been decided since elite 24 but they just had to wait things out.

It's not that they didn't recruit him.. They didn't kiss his ass and tell him everything he wanted to hear.

How about earning a starting position and earn the right to be the focal point?

 Enjoy S. Orange.

Glad we didn't cave to Tiny and Mr. "Face of the team".  Good riddance.  Glad Lavin didn't do it.

Sorry. These kids get used by coaches and the schools. I don't blame a kid for using the advantages they have. Kid should play his cards while he can. If they have a little upper hand good for them! School makes money off them and coaches can come and go and recruit over them all they want. Meanwhile the kids are forced to obey 1950 transfer rules. Seton Hall and Morton come off creepy, but I have no problem with a kid putting a school to the fire to get what he wants!
Next comes the part where someone says they are getting a free education. What % of players take advantage of that? And the school is really worried about their studies what with 35 night games a year all over the country.

Thanks for the info chilleb.

I'm not sure how much I like hearing about offering jobs to coaches to under armour.  Matter of fact I don't like it at all.

Knowing the results now I'd rather have just offered him a job at energy kitchen flipping burgers
