Call it a hunch.  He is going to go to UK if Shabazz doesn't and come here if he does.   UK is most likely going to lose all of their bigs except that tall white kid (I forget his name).  They really don't have anyone coming in as good as Gathers coming in as a 4/5 except Cauley who isn't as physical.  Also, I don't see him as a one and done unless he grows to 6' 9".

That sounds about right.

the bottom line...by the looks of gathers he's already a one and done lottery pick...i don't care if he goes to pottawatomie.  he's a man playing with boys.

no question, he can be helped by the great coaching he'll get at st john's.  either way, he'll be a monster in the nba.

1 and done?

His class his loaded with talented big men. He's probably around 10-12 in his position let alone his class. He's undersized and needs to do work to expand his game. No doubt he is super talented but he's not NBA ready coming in.

Coach K is terrible at turning mcds all Americans into good pros his players become role players in the league. All of dukes lottery picks bust! Except Brand who would of been brand no matter what school he attended he play dam near the same in high school
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

We haven't had this problem in years past; but going forward with the Lavin/Dunlap regime, do you think the fact that we play a zone hurts us with recruits?

Does a Calipari or Coach K telling Gathers their style of play will better prepare him to play man to man in the post at the next level, is something that plays a factor?

Doesn't seem to have hurt Syracuse, but coaches will use whatever edge they can.

I think Syracuse might have 7 or 8 pros on their team. Including a likely #1 pick down the road in Fab Melo.

MCNPA - agree with what you are saying about SJU being a better fit for Gathers but saying Duke is not hte best choice for wanna be pros is just not accurate.

Duke is not the best choice for wannabe pros because their style doesn't seem to translate well for some reason

http://www.zagsblog.com/2011/12/26/duke-ucla-kentucky-have-most-pros/

Ever wonder which colleges produce the most NBA players?

Here’s the updated list in terms of the 2011-12 NBA rosters.  As you might expect, Duke, UCLA and Kentucky top the list.

1. Duke, 17

2(t). UCLA, 15

2(t). Kentucky 15

4(t). Texas, 13

4(t). UConn, 13

6(t). North Carolina, 12

6(t). Kansas, 12

8(t). Arizona, 10

8(t). Florida, 10

i agree with mcnpa, duke players just dont succeed in the nba, like they do in college. they may have a lot of players in the league. but hardly any of them are impact players.

Can't forget Hill I copied my game after him when I was kid. I was mad with Jay Will lack of success  If someone would of told me Wade would of been better than him I would of smacked them!

Wasn't Jay Williams career effectively ended by a motorcycle accident?

If you put 10-11 serviceable NBA players on one college team every year, that team is going to be great year in, year out. That's all Duke does.

I just posted an update under Amile Jefferson, but it possibly applies to Ricardo.  They speculate coach K may not be liking Puke's chances with Ricardo or Parker.  Duke now pursuing Amile:

Exactly Dave.  For every 6'8" Brand that winds up above average in the NBA, there are 15 or more Marcus Fizers.  Players in Ricardo's height range are crap shoots for the NBA.  Ricardo has a long way to go.  I'd bet he doesn't go after his frosh season.

Good news for us.  I think we're still at or near the too of Gathers list.  Like I said though, we need to see Lavin back pretty soon if we want to land him.

You are correct

Yes your correct but before the accident struggle a lot at the next level went from the penciled in starter getting tons of minutes  because of his high draft selection to a bench player at the end of the season. Plus the motorcycle accident which ended his career isn't that supposed to be the reason why you go to Duke to mature off & on the court. If you add that incident to Christian Laettner drug & alcohol struggle in the NBA then you can see through the haze that Coach K really makes Mcds all americans better prepared for their NBA careers

Here is the article that Zagoria posted. Mostly about Martin but the two may be interested in playing together and its only us and LSU that is looking at both.
