All these FAVORABLE St. John's recruiting posts regarding top St. John's recruiting targets, and during that period of time of 4 months we've proceeded to lose (7) previously committed or signed roster St. John's players and gained NOBODY.  That is a fact and unfortunately not just a bad dream/nightmare.

Put the Kool-Aid down for a minute guys and comeback down to what has ACTUALLY taken place.  Am I lieing about the above or is not true/a fact?

I'm not understanding your point. This thread is to discuss the prospects of landing Gathers, not how great our 2012 class is. We are discussing what is actually taking place with regards to our involvement with Gathers. This has nothing to do with how many recruits we lost year to date. That being said, when all is said and done however, I have full confidence that the staff will put together a fine 2012 class.   

I feel pretty good about where we are with recruiting.  It was tough going with Pelle, Sampson, and Garrett not qualifying, but seeing Garrett crawl through glass to get onboard was epic.  And our staff learned a lesson about checking academics while on the recruiting trail right out of the gate.  Dwayne Polle moving on was probably best for the long term development of the team.  Dwight Meikle was never a good fit.  Jevon Thomas would have been nice but he just didn't have the gumption to fit in with this bunch.  Momo Jones might have helped in an immediate sense, but again not for the long term development of our group.  Same with Lindsey, not good for the long term development.  God's Gift was a great late signing for us, as we'd be in trouble without him, even though he frustrates a bit.  So where does that leave us?  Still in the mix for Gathers and maybe Sampson.  Branch, a true PG, possibly on the horizon.  Other true PGs, like Sina, very interested -- these two and others are higher rated that Wood who isn't even a great fit.

I don't think having faith in Lavin's recruiting is "drinking the cool aid".  Thus far he has exceeded all expectations.  There was a time not so long ago when we were praying to land a diamond in the rough and see a player develop before I eyes.  But with Lavin we are seeing many of the top recruits think about SJU.

He definitely is/was -- they both used "IMO" a hundred times per post. The best part (if I remember correctly) is that Buki was generally positive, and then he snapped and turned into Mr. Negative. It was like something out of WWF.

Well I don't know who those posters are, but if they exist than where are they or why don't ever see them post on these boards?  Perhaps they were banned for being more honest rather than being poltically St. John's basketball correct and sugarcoating everything.  "Show me a hero (who has the guts to tell it like it is during unfavorable times) and I'll write you a tragedy" on this board.

I again ask you to ask yourselves if I wrote anything that didn't happen or wasn't true?  Is what I wrote only my opinion or did actually happen?  Based on your reactions, you would think that I'm the one lieing here and your justified in shooting it down instead of it being the other way around.  (lol)  What do you expect/want me to do about losing all of these players all of a sudden, lie to myself too or turn the other cheek.  I don't know exactly why it's happening so often (players de-committing for SJU, but it better stop ASAP otherwise we're in big trouble again.  I like Steve Lavin a lot, he's a very good recruiter and a very good hire, but something is working against us right now like negative recruiting by other schools or conference realignment or Lavin non-existense/current void etc. etc.

I'm guessing that Gathers is about a 50% chance at best of reaffirming to The Good Guys now.  It's more important to find adequate replacements for the (6) lost players rather than resign them specifically.  We cannot go into another season next season with just 7 or 8 scholarship players again, NO WAY NO HOW.

That's a great notion except the best players available, that we're involved with anyway, are Gathers and Sampson.  Considering the amount of time the staff has spent building relationships with them, and how we'll they'd fit our system.... it'd be foolish not to pursue them till the end.

I think signing a highly regarded point guard lowers tensions around here for a little while...

Why do you keep calling him Rico? Does he go by that?

I've seen him referred to as Rico before.  And Rico is short for Ricardo as Rich is to Richard.
