Polee transferring to move closer to home

it's almost as if he was holding back on transferring, then when he heard momo's waiver idea his sick mom got a lot sicker. Pure speculation, but the timing is odd.  Also, this is a big loss for next season.  Having kids who already have experience in the offensive and defensive systems and the work needed to be put in to achieve stated goals is invaluable.  Those players are sometimes even more important than coaches in guiding the new guys on and off the court in such matters. We will now have one, and he will be a backup.

 I for one am sad to see Dwayne leave.
He was the Coach's first recruit, a top 100 kid from California, something the long-time fans like myself have dreamed of.

Well, there would be some negative impact from some "fans" - after all, he was original a USC commit, and his dad was DOBO for the Trojans.   Many UCLA fans have turned there backs on Henry Bibby, because he didn't refuse a head coaching job with USC.   Hanks stopped attending some public UCLA alumni functions because of the heckling he gets.   It's sad.   By the way, answer to a great trivia question - who is the only guard in NCAA D-1 history to START on 3 NCAA Championship Teams?   Yep - Henry Bibby.    There are only 4 players (regardless of position) who have done it - One Center (Lew Alcindor), two Forwards (Curtis Rowe and Lynn Shackleford) and Henry as the lone guard.   A TON have PLAYED on 3, but only those 4 have been starters on 3.

Kinda digressed from Polee,there - sorry.   Opens up a lot more time for Sampson, Harkless and Achiuwa.   But also would make a 2012 eligible Momo a HUGE get for the team....as SirDom is now likely to see more minutes in the rotation at the 3, as some of the other threes cover Polees minutes at the 4...

If Dwayne's dad is looking for his son to be the "focal point" of his new team, then it probably would not be UCLA.

Dwayne's performance this year did not lead me to think that he could be the "focal point" of any team, just a contributor.  He was a freshman, who demonstrated at times, a possible bright future.  Just how much of a contributor he will be in the future will rest on how well Dwayne matures as a player and the coaching he gets moving forward.

From the start Dwayne's dad has always maintained that he felt Dwayne was NBA material.  So I guess minutes really matter. Who would have thought that Coach Lavin would be so successful recruiting SF players?

San Diego State may just be the right fit. 

Dwayne, from what I have read, seemed to be a great kid.  He will do well.

Could he play at a JC for a year and then surface at a D-1 school, rather than sit out a year?

Remember that there are some players who were considered academic risks coming in, and until they're all on campus, I don't assume they make it through the NCAA clearinghouse. And with players from so many places, some of them will "get homesick" i.e., not get enough time on the court... and then there are injuries, disciplinary issues.

We don't want to see a team of all freshman and 2 JUCOs face the Big East schedule with 8 or 9 players on the roster.

The team list of teams that are interested (Loyola Marymount?  Pepperdine?) seem to show that no one thinks this kid is a high major player.  If he takes a spot for a team not in the LA/SoCal area, it would make sense to stop talking about the mom is sick angle, but we'll have to wait on that.  The timing seems too coincidental to Jones potentially coming in and Polee seeing the writing on the wall that he isn't going to get PT since he really isn't as good as the players coming in.  Sure he was a freshman, but he didn't show much improvement if any...almost a regression from him really.  If his dad is going to whine about PT, let him go somewhere else.   Thanks Dwayne for your contribution to the team.

Michigan's Fab 5 had 3 top 10 players.  Think Kentucky's recruiting classes the last three years.  This class has no one ranked in the top 25 by any recruiting services.  I think any or all of them could turn out great over a career but none of them are seen by any but some fans on this board as one and done frosh all BE 1st team material.   Now as for your last sentence, what does that even mean?  ; )

One problem with Polee transferring - and a reason people shouldn't be so quick to say that they're not too bothered by Polee leaving - is that there is a strong chance he won't be the last  change to the roster, and I don't mean Stith. Actually, not many of these kids are academic risks like you think.  Some had some issues over a year ago, but almost all have what they need.  The school year is over, and they'll be on campus soon.  the only one I think we're waiting for is Lindsey, to finish his summer classes.  Hopefully that goes well.  I don't think we have a bunch of question marks.

The Fab Five year you're talking about was their sophomore year, but that's just semantics, they did make it both years....

I don't think Polee is as bad as some of you are making him out to be. With a team with 9 seniors, how effective did you expect a freshman, and a bean pole at that, to be? He had some moments, and frankly, with a team of so many upperclassman, that's all you should expect from a frosh. Moments. I was looking forward to seeing him flourish this year...oh well, we move on.

This is sad news. I really liked his basketball IQ, athleticism and upside.
We've got 3 guys than can play the 4/5 positions right now.

If they should get into foul trouble will we be putting a shooting at center?
