Justin Brownlee is going to be a solid NBA player.
The NBA isn't so smart. They drafted a lot of sh*t.
NBA teams would rather pick a 28 year old foreigner from Qatar rather than giving guys like Brownlee a shot. NBA is outsourcing too
Disagree. If the Rules allowed teams to invest a draft pick on a US kid with the option to sign him when he's ready (they changed that rule after the Celts landed Larry Bird with the 6th pick in '78, knowing they coudn't get him till after the '79 season), those 2nd round picks would be mostly college kids. How about a team could draft the rights to any player, and hold those rights for 4 years (without it affecting the kids eligibility with the NCAA)? You'd see very FEW Euros going late, and US kids being gobbled up. With their rights preserved, the teams could even farm out a project to italy or greece for a year or two and still be protected. Investing a draft pick under current rules for US playesr is too much of a crapshoot unless the kid is a realative sure thing (and there's not many of those in the late 1st and 2nd round).
US players DO get a shot, just as Browlee will. Just not as good a shot to be drafted. NBDL, an overseas contract for a year or two - or if the league actually has camps this year - wangle an invite and get a chance to impress and earn a spot on the bench.
