I disagree. The loss of Miami and VT were very damaging to the conference. Their departure greatly diminished BE football. As much as I love BB, I wasnt happy with the addition of Marquette and Depaul and that if the conferance was going to expand schools with good football programs should have been braugt in, that is where the deficiecy is(football). Right now the conferance is so large there is little room for expansion. I get nervous that one day they may drop the nonfootball schools.

I agree with you on the great loss that VT and Miami (and BC) had on the BE FB program.  My focus was on the BB portion of the BE.  I go back to the founding of the BE as mainly a BB conference.  I doubt the BB schools would be dropped, but I can see the FB schools possibly forming another conference.

I said this before, Im a BB person, but no way is the BE going to let their football schools depart. Remember Louiville ,Syracuse. and Conn are football schools.

No matter how you slice it the BE is too darn big as is.  Next year I think we're going to pay the price in the NCAAs

How do you figure?  We had double digit teams in the NCAA tourney and a big east team won the championship.  We're also making the most money as a conference.  Pay what price?
Take away Kemba Walker and the BE looked lousy this year.  I'm betting we get less slots this year regardless.

You cannot use past years as a determining factor for this year.

They'll go by SOS and RPI as usual.  Nothing is going to change the fact that Big East schools at the end will have extremely high RPI's/SOS's.  Big East teams perform well outside of the conference.  Come tourney selection time, the Big East will still be hard to deny.

I think the Butlers of the world etc.  have made a point that anything can happen in a single elimination tourney.  We'll get ours on the top end but the bubble situations could get testy.

It all depends on how the BE performs out of conference. IF the big east takes care of business out of conference then we're looking at 11 teams again. Double digits should be the norm from the big east from now on with the bottom of the conference coming back up to the middle. The big east 1-12 is better than any other conference. I contend that the big east is better from 5-16 than any other conference. You remove the top 4 teams from the big east last year and then match up the remaining teams with another conference the big east would still win.

Uconn saved the conference by winning it all after finishing in the middle of the regular season.  We had a weak showing overall, but the funny thing is that the last team in from the conference, Marquette, went to the Sweet 16.  I feel like all 11 teams earned spots last year.  I doubt we see doubl-digits again this year, but the teams that get in have to clean up our rep.

I don't think the Big East did that poorly besides the fact that it's silly to base a season on one game. 2 of the big east teams were knocked out by other big east teams. Besides the fact that the committe is not going to base who gets in this year on what happened last year. It's all about what you do in the regular season. IF the big east does well out of conference than there's no reason we shouldn't get double digit seeds again. Besides none of the other conferences are going to be improved. Who's going to take away seeds from the big east?

How a conference performs the year before will weigh onthe minds of the selection committee.  I think it's naive to think otherwise.  Uconn really helped out the conference by winning it all.  Everywhere you looked you saw hating on the Big East.  The SEC, ACC, and PAC 10 were all very down last year.  As a result, the Big East stole some bids.  I think we are an eight or nine bid team this year.  I'd be shocked if we got ten.

I wouldn't.  We'll get as many as we deserve.  Even a team like SJU could have a top 5 SOS this season.  The tourney committee chooses based on who you play and on how the conference performs against the other conferences.  The big east needs to do what we usually do which is win OOC games.  If we represent nationally, with highmranked SOS's and RPI's, then we'll get the bids.  As the prior poster stated, we also had two early eliminations courtesy of our own conference.  SJU had a major injury right before the tourney as well andmwe were notna deep team.  I'm not sure we're as strong top to as last year, but the upper half might be stronger.  Hard to say just yet.
