Phil is not leaving. Moose's thought on Felix has some logic to it. This weekend should be interesting!

Taking Wood back and dropping Balamou makes us look like idiots. There should be some loyalty shown to Balamou. He
didn't decommit. Why tell him he's not welcome here? Why recruit him if we don't want him? I hope that this is all just bunch of bored fans passing the time, because if it isn't it's pretty embarrassing.

Then please grace us with your expertise on why we are recruiting another 2 guard when we already have 2 signed for this year and they are joining 2 already in place.  Please enlighten me

I didn't say that he wasn't being recruited instead of Balamou. I said that I think that stinks if that is the case, and I'd lose a lot of respect for our staff. What would "Hammer to Rock" mean then? We'll recruit you until the minute we can replace you?

What if Felix wanted to play with Chris and now he's hearing differently? Instead of immediately losing respect for the staff look at all options and maybe this isn't how he imagined.

I haven't immediately done anything. You asked. I answered. If he doesn't come, and a spot opens up, the staff can deal with it, or, if we are lucky they can completely ignore it, because it's not necessary. I don't want either one of these kids more than I want a player that we actually need.

If Phil transfers who plays the point for the first semester?  And then who backs up Branch in the second?

Signing period started right? So if Felix hasn't sent in his loi what is he waiting for? Like moose said maybe to see his friends decision.

Which is just one of the reasons why Phil transferring would be terrible. Staff already has egg on its face for telling Ron Roberts and Quincy Roberts to take a hike. Those were Norm's guys. Telling their own recruits to leave would be shameful, and actually disgraceful. There are 5 recruits left from super publicized recruiting class from last year.

It is best not to f with it anymore than they have.

How did some folks get to "Phil leaving" from a discussion on Felix and Darrick? I read no grounds to conjure up Phil and his bright future with us into "leaving".  The focus here should be on figuring out the future of Darrick and will that impact Felix and his LOI or vice versa.

Why would the staff ever ask Phil to leave?   .. They wouldn't.
I started that speculation that Phil would transfer - but that was because I think HE may want to if we sign Wood and Turner transfers in.   I'm sure the staff would want to keep him though.
But if you're Phil, think about it; your playing time is only going to diminish from here on out.   This year, after december; Branch steps in presumably into the starting lineup so you become a backup at either guard spot.  Although Balamou or Wood could be in that roation as well.  And maybe both.
Next year - if Turner comes (big IF), but let's say he does.   Guy was the 3rd best PG behind Teague and Kabongo last year.  He's going to start.
If D'angelo and Branch are here.. where's Phil's minutes going to come from in his Junior year? let alone his senior season?

Just seems like if I'm Phil, I wouldn't be thrilled with my minutes going from 30 as a freshmen, to 20-22 as a sophomore, to 15-18 as Junior, and depending if Branch and D'lo are still here for their senior seasons (and maybe Turner) he could be down to 10mpg as a senior.
Nothing wrong with the staff bringing in talent to challenge our own players, but if you were Phil maybe you look to be the star somewhere else, ala Q Roberts.

Again - I was speculating about Phil transferring.  I want to make that clear.  I don't know anything per se, I'm just saying we're bringing in a lot of guards who are interested right now, even after Branch's transfer.  So why would Wood and Turner be so interested if they knew Branch and D'angelo were going to be here for 3 more years together?

It's entirely my fault.   I was speculating why guards would still be interested in our program, when we have 3 sophomores capable of starting - and honestly one of the reasons could be if somebody were leaving.

I apologize if I took the thread on a tangent.   It was just me spit-balling.

Got your point last night. Perhaps we can now let staff examine the possibilities and potential outcomes. Relying on the pros seems to be a wise alternative to baseless discussion.

I think a likely scenario among others is that Wood and Nolan are probable 2013 recruits.

Greene is not going anywhere, he has the support of the staff and really blossomed as a player and once Branch takes over the point then watch out for Greene as a combo guard which he was recruited to do and now has the experience as a starting 1.

Perhaps Felix has second thoughts about St Johns? I don't know.

A more likely scenario is Wood as a 2013 and perhaps last 2 ships go to Nolan and Chandler. People may scratch their heads as why wuld 2 centers commit but both would get run in 2012 sharing the spot with GG.

Of course throwing Turner into the mix would totally be head scratching.

Harrisno's said all along he was going to give it two years.  I don't know if he would make the league after next year but I'm damn sure he'll get big offers from overseas.  That leaves a big hole with a lot of eligible fillers depending on game situations.  I see us moving toward more of a shooting team which willput less pressure on our bigs and defense.  Balance is a wonderful thing.  Thank God Steve answered the call.  I think Greene will be a crunch time force as long as he wants to be here.  He's a tough kid.

Saw a tweet on twitter yesterday where someone asked Darrick if he was going to recommit this weekend and he replied with "what do you think LOL" I would assume he is coming but s a 2013 recruit especially if there is any chance for Turner.

Darrick was really gung ho about St Johns and NYC when he first committed and would be a good 4 year player for us regardless of the year he enters.

My only reservation is the number of guards vs. number of forwards on the roster. Don't think we have the luxury of adding guards.

The roster will always remain fluid though (for us and everyone else for that matter). Just the way college basketball works these days as evidenced by nearly 400 transfers since the December break as well as all the transfers at mid semester.

I am guessing most high profile programs never use 13 ships again.

Lavin for some weird reason seems gung ho on using 13 ships.  If Wood is coming in 13 I'm fine with it.  If Wood is coming in '12 then something has to give with a guard.  Everyone knows where I stand with that.  I don't see how using all 13 is good.  To me its just a matter of time before the shoe drops and someone that we think is a member of STJ isn't whether it be now, December or after next season.

If Felix really wanted to play w CO , he shouldnt have verballed untill he saw where CO was going. Marco and Sanchez verballed on the same day. I also feel Lavin is useing  all scholis because he doesnt want to repeat last years debacle and gotta count on a transfer or NBA jump. I agree w Moose though, nice to leave an open scholi for a late tranfer or decomitt.
