Can we finally realize that;

Lavin had a challenge filling the loss of nine slots to begin with. Setbacks did occur, like the Rise Academy debacle, but he still brought in a great group.

Losing Moe hurt, but getting KaKarr back was a great achievement.

Needing size and shooting is being addressed. Adding two shooters and Sanchez will certainly help. Adding another big will make us even more competitive.

Getting in the game with Wood again and a stud like Turner speaks to a positive perception of the program.

Lastly, as Moose notes, we sre coming out of the thicket and will be able to recruit in a more systematic fashion. If we can add Lawrence and Mc Cullough over the next two cycles, we are establishing ourselves as the program we should be.

I am not sure why Lavin is trying to fill all 13 ships right now but the scholarships will be fluid every year

Right now he has to just add Lawrence for 13

Then he will likely have 3 ships for 14 with McCullough as his primary target

In 15 he would need to fill 5 spots.

I just love when you recuit 3-4 guys a year, it makes things a lot more manageable.

If you have 2 PGs, 2 SGs, 2 SFs, 2 PFs and 2 Cs, that's 10 players.  That leaves 3 more 'ships.  A fifth guard (combo), a 3/4 and a 4/5 brings you up to 13.  I don't see where we are overloaded at any position right now.  The only issue is will some players be willing to sit until their turn comes.

Josiah Turner is an incredible talent that we would be foolish to pass up if he wants to come.  If Lav can keep both him and Branch happy, that would be an incredible pair of PGs in 2013.  Wood is likely 2013.  I am confident that Lav will have a plan as to how to mix and match his roster.

Oh man...too much talent!  We really do need to slow down on the recruiting.  What would you guys be saying if Cal was our coach, bringing in the half the McDonald's AA team every year?

How do we have 2 centers?

Haha..  I've been thinking the same thing.  Remember we had 6 players last year?  Now we have too many? I think some people need to take a deep breath and stop micro analyzing.

If we only have 2 scholis . If Nolan commits I think we have to take him w Chandlers uncertainties. They will have to save one for Chandler. That leaves none available. It would be a shame to pass on Turner and Wood would certainly be a nice addition. Am I wrong w my scholi count? Many posters are questioning why we took 2 star players like Balamou or Hooper, even though they are nice additions, when we may have to pass on an elite late transfer because of it. But there is the old saying 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

Gift's scholly is up after this year, so I think we could afford to give one to either Wood or Turner before running out.

Edit: Wood is out if he is playing in 2012.

You can put Marco there if you want.  Still shows a glut.
I didn't include Hooper since he won't be playing next year and any 2012 commits aren't being scared off PT with him around because of this.  I would however say Hooper is firm 3.  Might even play stretch 4 in some lineup configuration.

The problem that I  think people aren't realizing is if you stack up to 13 there WILL BE unhappy campers.  And a couple unhappy campers can all of a sudden shoot your depth right in the foot.  Just trying to put perspective on depth charts and where we stand positionally.

Gift wont be leaving untill end of next year and have to save a scholi for Lawrence.

We were VERY fortunate that there weren't any injuries last season.  The team was essentially injury free all season, in a season where there was no room for error in that regard.  Chances are that it won't happen again.

Depth with interchangeable parts is a good thing. I'm assuming that a big is brought in also, so i'm throwing out the argument that we have "x" many 2-3 and no 5s.

Your right we didn't suffer injuries.  But we did see 2 players pick up and quit which is pretty much a season ending injury.

I have no issues bringing in two big men (4/5's).  I don't see the point in bringing in another 2 guard unless some 2 guard isn't coming.  I am also all for bringing in a PG who has to sit a year because then we don't need Phil to be a 1.5 anymore and he can focus on being a slashing 2 which is his strong suit.

Yes, definitely...Why is the 6'6" Marco listed as a SF everywhere else?  Besides the fact that it can't be mentioned enough that Lavin likes to play a point with 2 wings a decent amount

DJ Kennedy is playing in the NBA.  Where was he rated coming into this program?

Higher than Felix.
Make no mistake I like Felix's game.  Wood is more dynamic offensively.  Lav might be thinking ahead to when and if Harrison leaves early.

Moose, I appreciate your viewpoint  - you get out there and see these guys play in person.  There is no substitute for seeing them play.  I am sure that Lav has this planned out the likely scenarios with injuries, transfers, academic casualties.

One of the things we all like about college hoops is to see the kids like DJ who beat the odds.  Paris was viewed as a signing that came along with Burrel.  As we found, he was much more than that.  The comments you provided on Felix after seeing him play in person is a real good sign that this kid may be one of these pleasant surprises.  He also has upside and a good demeanor.

As for Wood, I sure hope he comes aboard and takes the opportunity to develop under this staff.  Top programs need to get the highly rated kids.  If he comes here and works hard he'll reach his ceiling too.

Lets see both of them come here and compete next season.

Question, is it possible for a player to walk on with an academic schollie (Hooper?) and not have it count as an athletic schollie (limited in number)??
