Nice video interview with Darrick and Amir

It's great to hear that Wood talks to Gathers twice a week.  We need that kid to carve some space down low and score with his back to the basket.  It's also nice to hear that both Wood and Garrett speak with Pelle, and that Garrett speaks with Sampson regularly.

If we can get all these kids on board...that would be silly.  Garrett and Wood are already great representatives of the school and program.  I always felt that recruits and players were the best recruiters.

Gotta love both because they are the great core recruits that programs are built around.  We can add a one and done guy here or there, but these kind of talented hustling top 100 players are the bread and butter.

I think many assumed that Wood was coming on simply to help get KA.  I think many are realizing that is not the case at all.  He's putting up big numbers in one of the best HS leagues in the country.  Great that he's becoming a go-to guy instead of just a guy on KA's team.

Seeing him person i now know why the staff wanted him for our 2012 class. So much potential

Love his game, very long and athletic which mixed with his jumper makes him a very good player. He does have good handles but not sure if he's a point guard, from what I saw didn't seem like someone who sets/runs the offense

Mont Clare Academy (PA) 96  Bridgton Academy (ME)  95  (OT)

The headline of this overtime game was Darrick Wood (Bridgeton) versus Davon Hayes (Mont Clare). Wood, the St. John’s signee, hit a barrage of pull-up three’s, mid-range jumpers, and attacked the rim scoring a game high 34. Malik Nichols slashed his way to 20 points and added 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. The 6’6” Hayes scored in a multitude of ways and netted the game winner for MCA, finishing with 28 points and 6 assists.  The MCA Big man, Allen Dempster scored 20 points, grabbed 12 boards, and blocked 3 shots. Keith Washington showed why he is receiving mid major recruitment as he scored 24 points and tallied 6 assists.

His handle doesn't look great based on the video I've seen.  I'm hoping for shooting and defense which I think he can provide.

Different.  Harrison is more of a shooter off screens.  Harrison will be a lights-out shooter over the next few years.  Wood has more well rounded ability.  Woods is much more athletic, taller and better at attacking the rim.  I'm extremely happy to have them both.  Both will have good careers here.  Wood has more upside because of his length and athleticism probably IMHO.

The 3 or 4 full games I've seen of his on video (to be honest, was following Kyle, and Darrick was on his team), the on-court announcers have all referred to Darrick by the nickname Hi-Rise (as they refer to  Kyle as Slo-Mo).   Yet almost none of the comments on the kids game seem to refer to exceptional hops.    Is there a story behind the nickname, or does he really have the hops?

Fantastic hops.  He doesn't always use that side of his game.  He's a smooth player slashing and shooting but this slightly older video reveals some of the hops he's known for.  Even in this video, there's not a lot of flashy dunks, but you can tell he gets up there.

I think Harrison has a high-level basketball body and is a better decision maker. Harrison has some bounce as well but not like wood, and wood is only about an inch taller. There the same age wood is a 5th year senior, I guess we'll have to just wait till next year to really see.

One thing I don't like about wood's game is that his length and hops dosent translate to rebounds or blocked shots, which tells me he's very lazy on the defensive end. Hopefully the pride we take in our defense will rub off on him when he gets on campus.

From what I've seen Wood is not lazy at all on the defensive end.  He actually has some good habits as he gets low, stays low and move his feet better than a lot of our guys right ow.  He covers a lot of ground.  He actually is a decent rebounder, but it's not very often that SG's are blocking lots of shots and that is a good thing.  Theyd be out of position if they were.  He's actually a bit taller than Harrison though.  Watch the videos next to Garrett.  Harrison is 6'2 or 6'3.  Wood is 6'4"+ it seems. 

Like I said, I love Harrison's game and wouldn't trade him.  Both very different types of players and with different styles.  Both are going to be good scorers for us though.
