50-50 chance that we play UTPA at MSG?  haha, wishful thinking on their part.  They were 6-25 last year and in the Great West conference.  Why are we playing this team?  We should be scheduling local teams as our easy games.  4 days before Christmas against UTPA is sure to be lightly attended.

Playing local teams we have nothing to gain everything to lose.  Sprinkle in a local or two but don't turn it into a NYC festival.  Wherever the heck this school is maybe a recruit from that area will see us.  Or maybe there is a tie in with Lavin and/or administrator.  That was why we played NJIT (former STJ employee was AD).

The Broncs tough non-conference road schedule features an additional team from both the Big East and Big 10 Conferences. The Broncs will face Ohio State in Columbus, OH on December 3rd. On December 21st they will travel to the Big Apple as they match-up against the Red Storm of St. John's University. The Broncs will also face two U.S. Service Academies when they face Army on Dec. 18th at West Point and Air Force in Colorado Springs, CO on January 9th. The Broncs will also have road match-ups against in-state rivals Texas-Arlington (Nov. 28th), Lamar (Dec. 5th), and TCU (Jan.11th).

The fact that a Texas paper is writing about St. John's should tell you exactly why St. John's is playing UTPA

I think it would make more sense to play UTPA at their place if we want to attract the attention of Texas kids. Would the game air on local TV there?

They will read in the paper about how the great STJ spanked them :)

Moreso in football, these smaller programs get some much needed coin and exposure hitting the road to get whacked.  I think it benefits both sides enough to continue these long distance, nothing matchups.

UTPA -- when it was known as Pan American College -- was the alma mater of former NBA stand-out Lucious Jackson. The 6-8 Jackson led Pan American to two NAIA championship games: one in 1963 (which they won) and another in 1964 (which they lost). He was drafted #4 overall by Philadelphia in 1964 and played in the NBA for eight years, including 1966-67, when he was a key part of the 76ers' championship team. (Another NAIA center was also drafted highly that year: the Knicks took Willis Reed at #7.)

Not to be disrespectful but this coach is out of his mind if he thinks he is playing at the garden. We play some tough Big East teams at CA so why would his team get to play in an empty MSG. Maybe people would show up to watch us spank them but I would prefer to watch that game home. This game doesn't make a lot of sense to me because we could play someone local and an just as easy of a game. I could see if we were playing Texas or a big school to get some attention to the program down south but no one cares about UTPA.

He then signed to the Beastie Boys label and recorded the hit "Naked Eyes".

Is this possibly a favor to Harrison ? A home and home. ? that would be my first guess and second would be that lav is friendly with the coach.

I don't think this is a home and home for Harrison.  UTPA is nowhere near where he is from.  It's just a few miles from the Mexican border.
