I was told there was a lot of trash talking on our part on the court, this team is cocky, but that comes with being young. They will get hit in the mouth and get a reality check.

That being said, we are a NYC team, cockiness is a quality we should have

Didn't see any trash talking.  But no question D'angelo is as cocky as they come.  One sequence he was fouled and it wasn't called and he looked straight at the official and motioned to the whistle in his mouth.

One game of Harrison shooting is enough for you to say he's not going to be the shooter he was advertised?

If he hit 10 threes last night I would have the same opinion. Ilike his game and think he is going to be a good player. Generally someone that shoots a line drive shot does not shoot a high percentage.

I've seen him play a 3 or 4 times and he doesn't have line drive shot.  Cedric Jackson had a line drive shot :)

If last night was his worst shooting game that I saw then we are in pretty good shape.  To be honest I didnt think we gave him enough looks early.  I wanted to see some picks and screens to open him up.

Ced shot a brick. Harrison has nice form he just shoots what would have to be classified as a line drive shot. Again has nothing to do with how well or poorly he shot last night.

Not seeing line drives here-

Nuri was talking the entire game. Harrison, too. Didn't notice much talk from the others. Harkless is the class of the program.

Some trash talking is fine with me.  As long as they back it up...

I don't mind some trash talk but we can't afford any ejections

Same here.  Like it or not, it's part of the game now.  I would hope all of our kids are "classy".  Nothing wrong with talking some smack.  This isn't the 50's anymore.

How was the crowd? Wait it a good showing from the fan base?

Great showing from the students, paltry showing from others.
Yeah all 300 of them in a school of 15,000. Thank God for the regulars (students that attend games).

Couldn't watch the game last night, thank God for DVR.

Here are my observations

- The zone in the first half was good, nice rotation, and they were closing out quick.
- God's Gift in the first half, soo impressive with the offensive skills, very surprising, didn't think he would be able to score like that. He has a great post presence, strength is apparent, gotta see if he can post up and hit a 8-12 foot jumper.
- Nuri off the dribble is lethal, gets to the rim really well.
- Phil Greene is the shooter on this team, very solid stroke.
- Starting the 2nd half, I was wondering where was Harkless...and wow..there he is. Harkless was awesome to start the half with 8 points, getting rebounds. I didn't notice his size earlier but in the paint he is big, should probably play the 3 but he will have to do work down low at times.
- This team would benefit so much from having another guy the size of God's Gift. Hopefully Pelle is back.
- It seems like, at least for yesterday, there was an emphasis to get to the rim, not as much shooting, at least in the 2nd half.
- Greene is really impressive with his awareness and shooting, solid quickness as well, seems like a 5 tool player.
- Harrison seems to be a solid player, will be great off the bench
- Obviously it's going to be different against stiffer competition, but through this game, the zone was excellent, really didn't allow CW Post do much.
"Zone was excellent, really didn't allow CW Post to do much". We gave up 80 pts-40 per half to a D2 team. Guards under 6' were getting put backs. Coach Dunlap said rebounding and d will be an issue all season.

You can't put too much on this game. Is was over 2 minutes into the second half we saw examples of the zone looking very strong, abs examples of CW scoring with uncontested layups.

Still, look at the difference between the 1st half defense and the 2nd half. These guys are coachable. This staff turned a group of 9 seniors, most of which lost and one dimensional into a machine. I think these guys learned what they were doing wrong at half time. That's a very good sign.

Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

I agree with you, the CW Post had too many easy layups and put backs, especially for a D-2 school against a BE school.  But I know it was the first game together for a lot of these guys and  it was just an exhibition.  I also wonder how much the short bench factors into not playing aggressively underneath the basket.

Defensive problems were because of youth, excitement and inexperience.  It will take a while to get it flowing properly.  I've always been of the opinion that coaches should recruit the best athletes and offensive talent they can find.  Defense can be taught, but much harder to teach players how to score.  The defense was quite a bit better in the second half, but still needs a lot of work.  We'll have trouble defending at times as teams will come at GG and try to foul him out.  A bit of a conundrum with only 1 6'8" post player on the team.  at times though, we'll play GG, pointer and Harkless on the front line which won't exactly make us "small".  Next year, the size reinforcements will be coming in with Pelle and Gathers.

There comes a point when your running 7 guys out there where your going to have to allow easy baskets to avoid fouls.

Yep, that's going to be the worst part - changing style of play and what your instincts tell you to do.  The coaching staff must be working hard at instilling that mindset.

Like I said, if we can at least get Garrett eligible for Big east play this season, even that one addition can make a huge difference in our depth.  Another athlete and quality player like Amir can really go a long way to improving our rotational abilities as the season rolls on.  This is the only season we're going to have to operate this shorthanded.  It's unfortunate but it is what it is.
