St. John's shouldn't have even been in this game. Texas A&M outplayed them but fact is they were and if they hit FT this game would have been largely in St. John's favor.

2 early OOC losses last year helped the team "find themselves" and now St. John's lost to two top 20 teams and had a chance to win both with only 7 scholarship players. Yea the losses hurt but if you guys can't see this team who isn't playing well now is super talented then I don't know what to tell you. Lets see how the team responds.

Agree with Dave.  Too many nattering nabobs.  We almost beat 2 top 20 teams with a roster where almost none of the, played a college game, before a week or two ago.  In addition, we're not playing 13-17 deep like someone these teams are.  We're playing with half of a roster.  We'll be quite good down the stretch even this season and the sky is the limit moving forward.

Nuri has som work on his shooting to do, but that's why he's here.  He's played one season of bball I. The last 3-4 years and not at this level.  He'll be excellent down the line when he folds some technical bball into his less rigid style.  All these kids need to work on FT's and shooting overall.

He didn't even deserve to be on the line to begin with...probably a little karma.

How do you not make even one in that spot?  Only St. John's...

In the end it rarely works out for this team when facing better opponents.

We're just STILL not good yet plain & simple.  We're always short in some area whether it's talent, experience, size, foul shot shooting ability, rebounds etc. etc.  We just can't get over the hump yet as a basketball program.  We're getting better, but we still aren't there yet.
The way this loss went down stings plenty. But Lap,  I'm watching these guys gettin up and down and I'm not thinking the program can't get over the hump. I'm thinkin I haven't seen these kind of players here in many years.

Keep your head up Nuri...truth be told his stroke and his mechanics look 100% better than they did a year ago.  I'm sure he's being coached up there...it doesn't happen overnight.

We aren't even in his game without him.  I Would have sworn Harrison was about to go off on a Dwight Hardy run after those treys late.  The weave with these guys is going to be tough defend for opposing teams. Ball these kids need is a half step.  Teams will be setting their feet to draw charges...the boys have to adjust.

I still like this team but how do you miss two critical foul shots that determine the outcome of a game.  Nuri is no freshman in age or experience.  And if you are talking about him in terms of pro potential, then you have to make at least one of those.  For the last several games many have said that poor foul shooting would come back to haunt us.  With Mo's miss prior and Nuri's double miss, this was certainly predictable.  How can you be a driving point guard and have a suspect foul shot?  Uggggg

Never saw so many "fans" accepting moral victories.  You are all disgusting.

Yes, this team showed promise and competed, but Nuri has to hit at least one of those free throws.  To miss both is a disgrace.

This team played well enough to win and was the benefit of a colossal ref job, as we shot 38 free throws to their shooting 3 and we still lost it at the line.....no excuse for that!

I tell my kids all the time one of the only things in the game of basketball that remains the same from grade school to the pro's are free throws. Those 2 misses were inexcusable. If your the man be the man when the games on the line.

Colossal Ref Job????

We attacked with our guards and drew obvious fouls...they didn't draw fouls because they made relatively easy entry passes with many uncontested layups.

Biggest non-call went in A&M favor

BTW, I received some heat when I posted after the Lehigh game that I thought the team would be better off by giving Greene the starting PG position/minutes and let Stith come off the bench, but I still think after watching the last one and half games that it's the right call.  Greene is really starting to elevate his game.

He is very good

eddiemac if u want i can get u a one on one with nuri and u can teach him how to make free throws. like the ones u made for whatever college team (or highschool for that matter) that u played for. just let me know when u are free

Yep...everyone is an expert...as disappointed as anyone that we lost a game that we could have won by 10 despite not playing that well...but this team is far and away the most promising that we have had in a very, very long time -- and perhaps the most athletic team that we have ever had...

If we had 2 of the 3 non-qualifiers we absolutely would have put Arizona away...

Chill out. We have a team with no D1 experience being thrown out there against back to back ranked opponents. It's more than ok to accept moral victories in this case. Should we have won today? Yes. But I wouldn't call anyone a "disgusting" fan for saying it's a moral victory. This team will win it's fair share of games this year and should be able to hang with most teams, thats what i learned from these two games.

I totally agree with this sentiment NCAA crowns are won in march not November! give these kids a break think about how we all raved that they wanted to come here in the first place ! these guys did qualify they didnt decommit or transfer for
"Family medical" reasons ! Don't spit in there face when they stumble trust this will build fire in their bellies for the future.
Last but not least the best part of being a St.John's fan is not being over critical ( be a class act my dudes)
future recruits read these boards also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 close losses to top 20 teams with all rookies and half of a roster.  Anybody who can't see how good we're goingmtombe wi a few more scholarship players and experience is nuts.  I'm not huge on moral victories ever but we're getting great experience against two teams that are arguably the best in the PAC-12 and Big-12 respectively.  We won't shrink from anybody this year and might even be in position to graze the NCAA's if we get Amir and continue to improve.  Regardless, we have a roster on the brink of a perennial top 15 team.  A big man or two, another PG and a shooter and we're money.

I don't understand how kob turned a simple criticism of Lindsey not being able to hit foul shots into, "I'll set you up with Lindsey and you can teach him how to shoot FTs."  That's just demeaning on kob's part.  No one here professes to be a coach or an expert.  It is fair to ask that a guard, who is not a freshman (a transfer yes a freshman no) actually be able to hit his FTs.  I look forward to his eventual improvement because he's going to need to in order to think NBA.

You mean another starting 5?    ;D.   But let's evaluate these loses. Arizona is not as good as advertised and they had frosh ( Johnson, 11 points and Turner) who played key roles.  I think that the team (other the Mr. Gift) played as good as they are capeable of playing at this point but there is no excuse for poor foul shooting. These kids were all top 100 kids who have been under preside before. No one was guarding them while they were shooting, were they. So no, I don't give them or the staff a free pass on continued lousy foul shooting which in this case, directly caused us to lose.
