Thats a bad situation for him there. I'm really not sure why he went there.

Slightly off topic... during the game against Louisville, one of the guys who was calling the game was talking about Garrett and mentioned that he is not taking up a scholarship because the Reds were picking up the tab. Is there anyone who can confirm or deny this?

I believe that the Reds are paying for him but he still counts towards the 13 scholarships.

I don't understand why Garrett would count towards the scholarship limit, strange NCAA rules
and if recruiting someone requires them taking up a scholarship, why does andre drummond get to pay his own way. wouldnt amir be able to do the same next year if he chose to?

Why is everyone talking about Sanchez?  Is there some article or talk about him coming to STJ?  I haven't been following too closely lately.  I wouldn't be opposed to adding Sanchez. If he's the same as last season (maybe he improved), but I'd wouldn't expect much more than a practice player that could give 7-8 mpg...which might be all that we really need.  I'd like to see us go after Monroe's little SG.  Maybe he's not a Big East two, but he can strike it and score the basketball.  You can never have too much scoring pop.

Zags wrote an article about Lavin watching Sanchez last week.

Its a great question...I'm not sure how they can make someone a walkon that was a recruited athlete.  Apparently Bradley was a recruited athlete as well.  The media tried to make it a heart warming story about Drummond...I guess the NCAA sweeps these things under the rug when you're a defending champ.

It's probably because Drummond is paying his own way while Amir is being payed for by a professional sports franchise.

There is something to it.  Calhoun was apparently a real ass to a reporter  when asked  about it(big surprise).  Nobody seemed to think it was possible in September.

Of course, there is nothing odd about the #1 player in the country paying his own way... ;D

In addition, not sure how they skirted the rule because he was a recruited athlete...

While not directly related to our recruitment program, I see some similarities with the problems Coach Sendek is having out here at ASU.  He has dropped a "star" player and suspended two.  He also had a recruit we were looking at last year, one, Jahii Carson, ruled academically ineligible.  He fielded a team last week with six scholarship players and beat USC, but got hammered by UCLA (looking good!) over the week end.  I am beginning to believe that Coach S. will soon be back east coaching.

Herb doesnt deserve to coach anywhere at this point.  He has imploded that team.

Rough patch is understated there, and I do think he's an excellent coach.  Might be out of his element in the west a bit.  Wouldn't mind seeing him resurface at one of our new brethren SMU, UCF, Houston et al...  Think he'd be a solid and interesting addition to the new big east and he has much better roots out here.

You always had a soft spot for him.  I could never stand him.
Why Carson would want to play there is baffling to me.

Who's Flood?

Leroy Flood
6'4/6'5 swingman from Boys and Girl HS.
I personally don't see him as a BE player.  Also serious doubts about B&G and the players they put out.

Thanks Moose, not a lot on him out there.  We don't have a thread, but Rivals says he has offers from Providence, Xavier, and Kent State.   ESPNNY had a story on him having a good game at Omar Calhoun a few weeks ago, but that's about it.

Have we offered?   If he's developing into a solid 4 that's one thing, but you would think we have enough wings at this point.

Here's the ESPN article btw http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/high-school/post/_/id/4533/fludd-emerging-as-top-baller-in-nyc

Oh and it's spelled Fludd in case anyone is looking to create a thread.
