I'm actually surprised coach didn't start using his twitter feed earlier.  I read something the other day about how "personal messages" on facebook/twitter don't count as a text message under NCAA guidelines.   And for that reason coaches are using the social media sites more and more for recruiting purposes.

Edit:  Correction, I was wrong.   I looked at the article again.  NCAA rules prohibit text-messaging of any kind, and obviously limit the number of phone calls a coach can make, but during the contact periods there is no limit on private messages on twitter or facebook.

Nevertheless, until they change the rules, this appears to be a major tool for coaches.

i don't think it's a coincidence that coach lav tweeted this tonight:

"Baron and Earl were both members of my first recruiting class (1997) along with current Johnnies assistant Rico Hines."

Was a 3rd PG in that class, but certainly not Rico.  It was Moose Bailey, who ALMOST joined the staff this year, before he landed the HC job at  Brentwood Hi.

I didn't think Rico was a PG, thats why I wrote that.

In Neal Nieves' blog this week, he thought Sheppard would wind up at SDSU when all was said and done.
