Postseason Play
« on: February 21, 2012, 12:20:47 AM »
Alright, so I know I'm getting a little ahead here, but what is it looking like if they go 2-1 (beat Rutgers and Pittsburgh, lose to ND, lose in 1st round of the BET)...CBI?  CIT?  It'd be nice for the freshmen to get an extra game or two.  I'm guessing unless they win two games in the BET (even then it might not be) the NIT is out of the question.

oh ye of little faith--we finish up 3-0 as we have significant rest now an ND plays Wednesday night and has to travel to NYC for a noon game on Saturday and they play with only 6 players basically.  also we will have extra days vs Pitt and Rut.   Ah the euphoria of a drink or two

Don't we need to be .500 to be eligible for these post season tournaments?   Certainly the NIT no?

I think so. That would mean we need to win our last 3 then 2 in the BET to even qualify for the NIT. Kind of the downside of playing such a tough out of conference schedule.

I think they changed the NIT rule of being .500 a few years ago.  Nonetheless, we need to string together a few wins to get consideration.

Unless we beat a couple of good teams i don't see how the nit can accept us. Our resume needs a lot of work. If they make the CBI or the CTI, I think they should absolutely play in it, and hope to go as far as possible. It's good practice.

Yeah I definitely don't see the NIT as realistic, they'd need to close out the regular season 3-0 then get at least 2 BET wins.

I'd give our post season odds at about a 5% chance of making it.

Try to put the St. John's Kool-Aid down for once in your lives guys, and come back down to reality if your man enough to face it.  I think there's even a better chance that we'll start next season with as many as 11 scholarship players.

Just in case you've been hiding under a large rock the past 5 months, this program is in big trouble right now, but GOD forbid if you ever actually noticed that.

I'm sure if Redmen.com users could do it all over again, they would have responded every now and again to your stupid overly positive posts, thus sparing us your overly negative comments now.

If you're talking about the NIT, I agree.  It's easy to get into the CBA or CIT, they should be able to if they win three more games.

The NIT is out.  I think we end the season 2-3 after a win in the Big East Tournament.  I'm sure a 14-19 record with our schedule would get this squad an invite to the CBI or CIT.  I'm not a big fan of those tournaments usually, but we have five freshmen and any postseason experience would be invaluable.  I want these kids to experience not just playing one game in the BET or CBI/CIT, but winning and then getting ready for the next game on a quick turnaround.  It's a very different experience.

They were (16-17, 6-12) in 2009 when they went to the CBI. If they finish out the season strong they'll get an invite. I just don't know if they'd take it. Honestly they'd be stupid not to.

We're drinking the Kool Aid because we're discussing the CBI and the CIT ???!
Damn, you're right.  Those are such lofty expectations.... we all need a dose of reality.   Good thing we have you around here

while i hate to see the season come to an end, i'd prefer for us to not make any post-season tourney.

2 reasons:

1.  The kids have had a long tumultuous season.  For a bunch of freshmen, it's probably the most mentally taxing experience they've ever had.  they need rest.

2. I want our coaches 100% focusing on the future.  that means recruits, recruits, recruits.  and i'm not just talking about HS players.  i mean recruiting this current team to stick around.  we can't lose any of the guys on this team.

You think Lapchick 1 rooted for Lions over Christians in a former life?

And, for what it's worth;
All the teams in the CBI and CIT last season had .500 or better records except Oregon who played in the CBI at 16-17.   And coincidentally they were also the only BCS conference team to play in either of those tournaments.

Basically if you're a halfway decent major conference program, the NIT will take you.  Otherwise you're staying home.

Rest? They have 7 months to rest!
