Zags poll for BE COY
« on: February 28, 2012, 12:27:51 PM »
http://www.zagsblog.com/2012/02/27/who-should-be-named-big-east-coach-of-the-year/

Boheim, Buzz, Brey, Dunlap, Heath, Williard, and JT3.

Current position is Buzz, Boheim, and Dunlap (Brey 4th).  I voted for Buzz.  I think Boheim has done a great job, but he just has so much damn talent up there.  Brey got schooled last week by Dunlap.

Boheim is coach of the year hands down, if not him then Brey for making most out of nothing.

It is Mike Brey hands down.  After Abromaitis went down, no one expected this team to even SNIFF the NCAA tourney.  They will be a lock for the dance.  There is no other option.  Brey will compete with Haith for national coach of the year, but the last two losses probably hurt him.

Heath...   Brey has won the award too many times, you'd think he has a few NC's under his belt already...  Heath took a loser team and did a great job.

Boheim is coach of the year hands down, if not him then Brey for making most out of nothing.

Nobody has more to work with than JB.  It's almost silly the size and depth be has.  He has a 1st rounder coming off the bench.

Brey wins every year it seems.  They are only a little better than I projected them anyway.  Heath is hands down the coach of the year to me. Jt3 after that...then Dunlap.

He recruited that depth, what he does not get credit for it?

And he is 28-1 for crying out loud, I don't care if you have an NBA starting 5, that is tremendous.

What no Mike Brey?  Remember he doesn't have the benefit of coaching Ryan Humphrey or Troy Murphy.

They are right where I posted they would be when Baldi projected them 12th...I said that was ridiculous with the talent they have returning and that they should be a top 25 team.  Brey just reloads every year.  He's a good coach, but he's already won the award a few times.  He gets underrated every year because fans and writers don't understand the value of experience.  Brey always has guys that put up modest #'s as underclassmen ready to take over for their departed teammates.  To me the award is more about coaching and what you do with the talent you have.

Besides Brey has won the thing like three times (off the top of my head) already and he's not THAT good of a coach.  Heath has done a fantastic job this year with what he has.  He's taken over a perennial loser and put them at the top of one of the most competitive conferences in the country.  JT3 has been impressive as well.  I feel like anyone could have coached that Syracuse team...the talent, depth, and size of that squad is astounding.  Yet, I bet they underperform again in the tournament.

Dude that is not what you said about Brey 2years ago.

More importantly there is NO One who thought after losing Abromaitis and Katenda that he would have them on the verge of a Double Bye, NO ONE.  As for experience he has one of the most inexperienced backcourts in the BE.  And Brey has won it 3 times, not sure why that matters if he did the best job again.

Secondly you did not have Syracuse at 28-1.  You did not have Fab Melo as having this much of an impact this year.  Right Boeheim just rolls out the balls.

And Georgetown has terrific talent, most certainly MORE then Notre Dame.  I am sure you would trade Henry Sims for Jack Cooley.

You can make the case for JTIII, Brey, Buzz Williams (done a fanatastic job) and Boeheim.  I could make the case for all of them.  But to dismiss people like Boeheim and Brey for those reasons first off are not true and are ridiculous.
