Lose, lose, lose, we're great at losing...

This basketball program cannot sustain ANYTHING positive for very long.  All they consistently do for the most part is fail.

You're a f'ing clown.  Make a promise, when Lavin has this rollin', and he will bank on it, you will never ever post again and as gman says you will crawl back under your rock from whence you came.

And when will "Lavin have this rollin"?  When will that be?  After this season, how much longer do you think he has?  I say 2 more years and if he doesn't turn it around in two years than he's gone.

St. John's for the most part has become a perennial failing and losing basketball program over the past 2 decades.  Even when St. John's has a rare good victory, than they always almost immediately fail all over again and disappoint us.

All I kept thinking to myself tonight was "how are we going to blow this one"?  and we blew it...

When are you going to go away J-off

My thoughts exactly.   And I'm certainly not a Kool Aid drinker, but if all you take away from this season is negativity than there's something wrong with you man.

Answer this;   What would you have done differently?

Because Lavin's been here two years and we made the NCAA's for the first time in a decade last season, and this season we had a typical SJU '00s type of season.... EXCEPT we had 6 freshmen! 2 of whom will probably be preseason All Big East to start next season.  Things can only go up from here clown.

The difference between many of you and myself is that YOUR IN CONSTANT DENIAL, and I'm being honest in the reslts for the most part over the past 20 seasons.  I've decided to stop defending a losing program.  I'll continue to root for St. John's to win with all my heart and to finally turn things around, but I also realize how unlikely that is and has been for the better part of 20 seasons now.  We've become celler dwellers, that's what we are.  "You are what your record says you are"  (-Bill Parcells)

Lavin got off to a great start, than unfortunately became ill, lost a number of recruits and players and we're in trouble again.

Oh no doubt 2 seasons in and he is a complete failure.  No doubt.  We are all in denial.

Tomorrow we are starting a petition, Lavin needs to go.   Who is with me.

Love the bill Parcells quote.  No doubt it took you a minutes to Google that.  This guy would be great at Kid's Parties.

In business just like in sports, when an organization continuosly fails 90% of the time, than you and I have to stop DEFENDING their continuous under-achievment, because by continuing to defend them you INADVERTENTLY become much more part of the problem rather than the solutions to solving the problems.  Anybody can have or experience a bad year, but when you have bad years 90% of the time than it's much more than an abberation of having an off year and that's where this basketball program is now.  We're consistent failures whether you can handle that reality or not.  Now the questions becomes HOW DO WE FINALLY CHANGE IT AROUND FOR THE BETTER?  EX:  We're short 5 or 6 or so scholarship players going into next season, and we have one current commitment.  NOT GOOD unless it suddenly turns around, so lets hope and pray that it does otherwise we're in big trouble AGAIN next season.

It's become a sad situation unfortunately and there's really not much good to say anymore.  I wish I could come on this board and brag about this team, but they just never give us that opportunity much anymore if your being honest about the results.

Louie and Joe were legendary, but those years ARE LONG GONE NOW.  "It is what it is", and it certainly isn't good for the most part anymore.  I was young young boy the last time St. John's basketball was a solid program, but those years seem like ages ago now.  All we do now 90% of the time is lose, and fail.

I agree that "not having enough players" is our biggest current flaw.  However, who's fault is that?

Goodnight all.  Unfortunate they couldn't pull it out.  Have fun ripping on Lapchick1.  His mom makes him turn off the computer at midnight.

mjmaherjr has been reading my mind.  But I think Lapchick1 should change his name.  I am a real SJU guy, bleed red & white.  Maybe in some twisted way the fact that we both have Lapchick in our poster names restores balance to the universe!

But if others think I should change my name I will.  If I come up with a new one can the moderator change it for me so I don't have to reregister?
Good point. Maybe we can change lapchick1's handle to "1and done"

I just went into the account settings and I can't change my user name, still have Lapchick in it.  So to mjmaherjr and others, don't confuse me with Lapchick1.  I am in the for the "long haul" and that means hauling in the hardware in March 2013 (or 2014)!

See now that's nonsense and you don't know what you are talking about. If you have a company who's business has gone down dramatically and you hire a new CEO who has a proven fantastic track record you are already talking about getting rid of him in year 2 ? When his 1st year he did better than we had done in a decade ?

You have no f'ing idea what the business world is like. We had a regime change. We for rid of Norm. This year hasn't worked out great but Lavin got f'ing cancer for crying out loud. He's the best thing that could have happened to our program

How many thousands of times have we read the above in the last 20 years?  "Unfortunately we couldn't pull it out"...

When does it ever stop?  When is enough enough already to you?  Do you see a pattern here that isn't good?  I certainly do.

Everytime this basketball team rarely goes on a rare 3 game winning streak I find myself saying to myself "when is the roof and ceiling and floors going to start collapsing"?  Because this team cannot SUSTAIN anything positive for very long.  The only thing they unfortunately sustain is losing and failing in the big picture.  EX:  Our winning streaks have been few and far between our losing streaks which can last sometimes for a month or more.

Do we need to rehash the same argument that has happened a million times on here.  Norm had 10!!!! seniors.  We weren't finding 10 quality players in one class.  Lavin took a shot on some academic risks.  It didn't work out and we got 6.  He could have gone with 5 sure things and 5 scrubs, but I'd rather he took a shot on the big time talent.  Now the risk is he doesn't fill them ships out this year.  I won't panic until after the spring signing period ends.  Until them I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

How is it Norm's fault?

Did Norm have anything to do withy Pelle, Sampson not being eligible?  Did Norm have anything to do with 4 returning players transferring that he didn't recruit?  YOUR IN DENIAL AGAIN.  Did Norm have anything to do with Gathers, Woods de-commitinmg and the Arkansas transfer that lasted half a season?  How about Polee etc. etc.?

I don't even want to imagine how demoralizing it would be right now if Norm had remained our coach, graduated all those players last year after they would have underachieved, and we would have put a bunch of mid-majors type talent on the court this year.  We put some really young and talented players in SJU uniforms this year who were fun to watch and for the most part had smiles on their faces even under tough odds.  What these guys have accomplished, and what Lavin has put together, has remained in the national conversation all year long.  Anyway, I am really pleased with the direction the university is going with the program, the support it has given the program and Steve Lavin, and for the toughness our guys have shown hanging in there.  If I had known at the beginning of the season that Harrison would rank 2nd or 3rd in the nation in scoring, and lead the BE for FROSH in scoring, I would have taken it with bells and streamers.  And if I had known that Harkless would have excelled as he has done, to the point that we're all hoping he doesn't jump to the NBA, I'd have been thrilled.  Who thought Greene would assert himself the way he has?  Pointer has shown glimpses.  And Amir is so committed to SJU and has shown glimpses of the player he'll become.  Even God's Gift, the guy has been steadfast, and as a JUCO transfer was an enigma (as well as a late signee) and he has been strong for us, taking on much stronger inside talent in the BE.

At the end of the day, things have changed since Lavin's arrival.  SJU is in the national conversation again.  Any talented recruit will at least consider us.

The above is an exact example of what I mean when I say "we're constantly DEFENDING losing formulas".  There are some posters who will never admit how bad things are, NEVER.  They will spin and spin and spin and spin and St. John's over that same period of time will lose and lose and lose for the most part.  So I ask you, WHAT ARE YOU DEFENDING?

Here's a realistic question.  Will St. John's win (1) game in this Big East Tournament?

Forget about winning (2) games, because that's a pipe-dream.
