Here's a realistic question.  Will St. John's win (1) game in this Big East Tournament?

Forget about winning (2) games, because that's a pipe-dream.
How many wins did you think we were getting this year ? BTW 10 minutes to Wapner

How are you going to spin when our best young RETURNING players leave for the NBA early setting the program back yet again for another reason?

Example:  Just when it looks like it's St. John's turn to have a fairly successful season we lose our best players prematurely.

It's very obvious to me that if someone like myself is not willing to kid themselves and defend everything or spin the results than they're not wanted on this board no matter how right they are in doing that.  We've become predominatly a message board dominated by a bunch of losers and dreamers, and I will not be a part of that continuous lie because it serves no purpose or does no good.  All it does is inadvertently create another barrier to success.  EX:  You support what has failed etc., so than HOW DO YOU EVER CHANGE IT?

I'll GLADLY be much more optimistic WHEN THE RESULTS START TO CHANGE AND LAST just like the poor results have which in turn creating and/or causing my criticisim.

I agree that "not having enough players" is our biggest current flaw.  However, who's fault is that?

Norms

It's not all Norms fault.   Plenty of factors went into it, but if we're being completely honest, Lav is somewhat responsible.
But proportionally, Norm is far more at fault.   And more and more I believe the Rise situation wasn't the fiasco some make it out to be.   From what SJU79 and others "in the know" have said; everyone knew all along that Sampson and Pelle were miles away from qualifying.  Lavin signed them to generate buzz for the program, and on the hope and prayer that they'd qualify if they took summer classes.   I don't think they were ever expected to be here, it was a hope.   And having gotten into the game so late, the pickings were very slim.  Plus, we should have had a returning PF in Polee.  I don't think the staff forsaw him leaving after the season.

Bottom line; Norm left him with a shitty situation; several unfortunate things occured, and partially Lav may have erred in not signing one or two safe players.   But that's debatable at best.   It's impossible to judge Lavin poorly at this point.   Ridiculous actually.   He delivered success on the court last season; signed several studs that form half the core we need going forward, and then got sick.   Norm had 6 years and he never won or recruited as well as Lavin has done in the past two years.   The program is better than it was, it's moving in the right direction.  The key is a year from now we hope we can say it's even better then than it is now.   Improve every year, that's what I'm looking for.

My buddy in Vegas just said the odds moved up to 10-1 that you won't last till monday

Poison, that's only one area that needs to improve this off season.  This team needs A LOT OF HELP IN A LOT OF DIFFERENT AREAS.  They're too short, they don't shoot Foul Shots very well, they have no true-Center, they have little experience, they tire easy because we have no depth, they turn the ball over a lot on & on & on...  Plus we have no peremanent Head Coach coaching the team right now and we're currently 6 players short going into next season.  WHAT AN ONGOING MESS!

Why shouldn't I last?  Look at the results.  Am I lieing?  So another words anyone of us who is willing to bring up the undesirable results and willing to become unpopular for it and attempt to discuss our weaknesses gets canned here for that?  So you either join in on the dream parade or your shown the door.

You know, they didn't like what Jesus was saying either so they nailed him to a cross.  GOD forbid if they listened right.  Jesus might have actually helped them.

Your so far from reality that I can't even help you because you'll ban me for trying.  EX:  "Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy".

GOD forbid you ever had the insight to see my opinion as being constructive criticisim.  What does spinning things do to help?  I kindly ask you, how does continuously spinning/sugar-coating things point out some of our weaknesses in order for us to perhaps start bettering ourselves and start making the proper adjustments?  EX:  We're already good/fine, we don't need very much help mentalty.  Well I say to that, if we're already pretty good than why do we keep mostly failing for the past 20 years?

Well the kids can't work on growing now can they ??
But you're not wrong about the shooting and ball handling.   The wings especially; Moe, Amir, Dom.  I think we'd all like to see them come back having worked on their shot and dribble.

And Posion, the non box out at the end was rough.  I rewound it a few times and Moe was in a tough position because he was on the low block but stepped over to deny the rutgers guy driving to the rim; couldn't see who else had the opposite side of the glass but that was a painful way to lose.

We won a couple times last year on plays like that though with Brownlee tipping in the winner after Hardy left it on the glass.   Cinncinnati and Georgetwon if I remember.  So we'll have our time again when were more experienced in those situations.

I agree with some of the criticisms and areas we need to improve on.

Wait... Did you just compare yourself to Jesus ? Holy f'ing christ.

But you are so negative you can't be rational about the guys.

Lavin's track record long term is ridiculous. I'll trust coach until he gives me a reason not to and he hasn't done that yet

desco, I applaud the effort that these 6 players or so made all season, they didn't have a chance in Heaven.  They need A LOT OF HELP that they deserve and have not received yet.  Lets see if they get that desperately needed help in this current 2012 recruit class.  EX's:  true-Center, another PG, couple of Power Forwards/big bodies and a Wing Forward.

"idiot"?  Have I called anyone an idiot?  Yet you want to ban me!  INCREDIBLE!  What nerve!  Anybody who roots for St. John's who attempts to discuss the continous unwanted results in a realtic manner gets banned.  Another words, lie and spin and you'll be accepted.  However, how does that become part of the solution when doing that hasn't solved a thing in 20 years now?

The same posters defended Norm Roberts too.  I'll say this about Lavin THAT IS POSITIVE.  Lavin is a much better recruiter than Norm Roberts and Lavin is a very good recruiter.  However, Lavin has run into some early difficulty keeping players that he's recruited for various reason already discussed.

[PONDER THIS THOUGHT]:  If everyone on this board all thought & said the same things AND NONE OF US WERE WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK OF NOT BEING ACCEPTED WHILE TRYING TO DISCUSS SOME OF THE OBVIOUS DOWNFALLS, than what NEW INSIGHT would we ever learn?  It's different opinions and views that we learn from that create a healthier more well rounded discussion.

I dont know you personally so I shouldn't of called you that. You may be the nicest guy in the world so I apologize. How ever when comes to basketball you dont have a clue at all and thats just being real. When I hear you saying Lavin aint gonna last long or should be on the hot seat that just shows me how little you know about basketball, the big east and this program.

What's our record this season?

What has record been year after year for the past 20 years?

Now I ask you, what are you defending?  What have we been so successful at?  If 16 or so of the past 20 years have been almost last in the league finishes than there is going to be some criticisim in return, and it's incredible to me that there hasn't been more criticisim than there is on this board based on the results.

"You don't get by on mediocrity in sports.  In sports you have to be a winner".  That's just the way it goes, and this program hasn't even been mediocre in it's results.

What the HONEST forcast right now (IYO) for next season?

Again this is where you are out of your f'ing mind.

Lavin is the coach. Doesn't matter what happened here the last 20 years. The school finally made a commitment to winning.

Lavin is a winner. Period. Has the results to back it up. He got f'ing cancer.

You have no clue how the business world works. Lavin is the CEO now. We have 2 players on the team ( In Lavin's 1st full recruiting class ) who are 2 of our all time best freshman.

Tick Tock

And how long has Lavin been here for? 2 years one of which he hasn't even coached due to sickness. In his one full season he took a 6 league win team to the top of the Big East & NCAA Tourney. Look at Lavins track record. Has he ever failed? You are talking about a 20 year span in which our coach has only been here for 2 years. The fact were even having this convo is absurd.
