I think Bill Self should take the URI job, clearing the way for Shabazz, Parker, and Sampson to come here.

Already done.
Jordan Hare 6'8 PF 3 star from Rivals, 90 Grade from ESPN out of Detroit is their only commitment for next year.

I was trying to figure out why I had heard of him, but it turns out I was probably thinking of Auburn's football stadium.

Maybe they do. Right now, we got nothing.

Neither do RU or SHU and last time I checked both of thier head coaches weren't diagnosed with prostate cancer.  But after losing to both of them this year with freshmen Lapchik is ready to concede all recruiting to them at this point.

BTW-Tom Parrotta of Canisius, former Tom Pecora assistant, was canned today as well.

The thing I remember about Jim Baron was he was mentioned by some as a possible replacement for both Jarvis and Roberts.  Of course Mike Vaccarro of the Post is a fan of his as a former St. Bonnie alum where Baron coached.

Baron is actually a part of my family.

Six 20 win seasons in 11 years, always on the bubble for the NCAA tournament but never given respect, tremendous coach and person, one bad year and is canned. Reminds me a lot of what happened to Lavin at UCLA.

When you lose the fans, students, alumni and boosters its hard to keep a job and he knows that. It's just bullshit that overall body of work and ONE bad year is all that counts.

Now on the St. John's front of this, Billy, his son is a great pure shooter. People think he's going to be better than his brother Jimmy. The Baron's are originally from NYC and family still lives here in Queens. It will be interesting to see if he transfers out.

That may be true, but Seton Hall and Rutgers have more than 7 players for next year, and players have no decided to drop them or quit mid season. I'm not saying that I don't believe that Lavin can land a couple of good players, but it is concerning that it's March 3rd, and we have no size, or depth to speak of for next season.

So what that wasn't my point.  And SHU loses by far their two best players and they do not have remotely comparable players coming in.  And again neiterh of their coaches had prostate cancer.

BTW-They are talking about Skinner going back to URI.

Billy just transferred IN, from Virginia.   2nd leading scorer and assist guy for RI as a soph this year.  But he's used that transfer year - changing schools, unless its to NAIA costs him a year's eligibility now.

Waiver? He clearly transferred in to play with dear old dad. Not sure if there is any precedent, though.

I knew that but I didn't realize it. He might stay, interesting situation to watch.

We've been saying for a decade that a team will fall bec they are losing players. However, it usually doesn't it work out like that. Seton Hall overachieved this year. Theodore wasn't supposed to be this good, but he was.

I'm not saying Lavin can't fill out this recruiting class Fordham, he may.  But coach and his high priced staff weren't brought in to have better classes than Mike Rice or Kevin Willard.   So the fact Seton Hall and Rutgers don't  have anyone signed, either, doesn't make me feel any better about our program.   Lavin's reputation demands he be compared to Thompson and Wright.

But with that said, there's no question Lapchick and his ilk are fools for thinking losses with 5 freshmen in the BE mean anything.   And the recruiting expectations shouldn't be what they would in a normal season, because of coach's health the last few months.   But at the end of the day - let's compare apples to apples.

I know that but neither of them had cancer for crying out loud either.

Does anyone realistically think that if Coach Lavin were fully healthy and never got cancer that Rico Gathers would not still be in the fold right now?  How about Lindsey?  Do you think he would still probably be at SJU playing?

It was HUGE issue that leveled the entire playing field.  He has been the coach for less then 2 years and he has not even coached the 2nd year.  He is by far the best recruiter SJU has ever had at this position.  It is just he had an unfortunate issue that blunted the momentum.  He will get it back.  He'll bring in a decent class this year combined with the core already here and that is a good team next year and then barring any further complications he is going to get this rolling big time.  Just be patient.

It'll all be sorted out after the signing period.  Then we will have something to compare to.  The fact is that we do have 1 player signed, he's a transfer and was a top 50 player out of hs in Branch.  That's a fantastic start, but nowhere where we need to be.  Time will tell.

BTW-Here is a cautionary tale of a once bright mid-major coach who was one of the hottest commodities in what many considered the best mid-major conference in the country who is now out of a job.  First 4 years goes to the NCAA's 3 times and the NIT once.  Was considered a lock to be at a BCS conference school by now.

Then it all went south in a hurry.  Chris Lowery of S Illinois was fired this past weekend.  Ironically enough the guy he replaced, Bruce Weber, who left 9 years ago for the Illinois job maybe fired himself and could be a candidate for his old job:
