Hoops Weiss is a journalist.  These guys fancy themselves as "experts" who came up in a time when you gave very little away free.  All their models were and still seem to be based upon subscription models and I don't think consumers are their primary target anymore.  For example, even though Coleman sells a $70 per year general subscription he sells a 20x in depth newsletter or something like that to coaches for $495 per year.  That's where the money is.  FWIW Francis probably just gets by on renewal credit card payments from guys who long forgot Hoopscoop even exists.  ; )

Here's an interesting story from a couple years back that name checks a lot of these guys and how they run/ran their businesses as it relates to HS/AAU hoops in general.

I will definitely read that article later tonight.  I thought there were rules vs. programs paying for access to that type of stuff.  I just don't know what kind of subscription base they still have even if it was every single college thats 300 programs.  I'm sure the sell thru isn't 100%.  I mean Gibbons of all people should work for ESPN as Recruiting Emeritus or something at least he has cred.  The others, ehhhh not so much.  Especially Clark in the dark.

Met Clark a few times, wacky guy right out of a Steven King novel. Ron N. of Cardoza wrote for him and Clark drove him crazy.(a short ride at that)

Really?   I was under the impression athletic departments regularly pay for scouting services.   I think you hear about it more in football, but I'm sure it would apply to other sports as well.
