I agree with we are sju, Green is/was a terrible point guard.  I got killed during the year when I would trash Greene, but I hate his game.  I can't wait for Branch to be able to play.  I think Greene is a decent role player off the bench, but starting BE pg he is not.  Maybe Greene will prove me wrong, but I just don't see what other posters see when they gush over Greene.  Also, I am sure I am going to get about 10 reaction posts telling me about the 2 games Greene put up great numbers and how much he improved, but I just don't see it.

Do you think he can play PGeffectively for 8 mins next year when Branch needs a blow.

I am a fan of Greene's.  I never deluded myself into thinking he would be an ideal starting pg for a team that is expected to make, and play well in, the NCAA tourney, BUT given the circumstances he was thrusted into last year, IMO, he did a commendable job at filling the pg role for a woefully inexperienced, 6-man team with one decent outside shooter.  I think he will be better this year for his experience last year, and will continue to adequately fill the pg spot until Branch can play, and will be great off the bench in whatever spot Lavin needs him to fill.  Good teams need guys like Greene.

Yes Moose I do think he can fill the role of backup PG for 8 mins a game. I think he will actually be more effective as a change of pace guy that can come in and give spurts of energy and defense.  I don't think he possesses the pg skills to play more than that on a consistent basis

Why all this debate of Greene. He was never penciled in to start as the point guard, Nuri quit and Stith failed so Greene was the only option. He played adequately and improved as the year went along. Of the bench he will play 18-20 minutes a night and with his fearlessness of driving to the hoop and his pull up game I believe he can probably average 8 points a night. He is a rotation guy who will be good in that role.

But we're not. Because then last year's freshmen are juniors. Then we have a core of experienced players to which we add another one year wonder.

Which would be every year but one since the Harding administration. Not me. I want a NC before death brings blessed relief. Besides, what was more fun, losing to Gonzaga in 2011 or beating Georgetown in 2003? Sign me up for another glorious NIT banner.

Sampson will not be one and done.  He's another reason Hooper is around.  They are ridiculously close and will want to play together.

I would go with Mark Jackson over Kevin Williams, though it is really not fair as both should have started.

I don't have the foggiest idea who those other two guys are but  Gordy Feigenbaum sounds like he might be a pharmacist.

Greene came to the rescue last year and kept us from a single digit win season.  He can play two positions,  has a good handle and matches up athletically with most guards.  He's a valuable piece to have around, especially if Harrison gets antsy.

Id like to say to some of peeps on this here board that it might be good to appreciate what you got (and the potential therein) instead of alway salivatin over the next player to bring in.

True enough.

I think we all noticed how much D'angelo's shot improved as the season went along, but it kind've flew under the radar how much better Phil was shooting by the end of the season too.

Phil shot 28% from 3-point for the season.
But the last 13 games he was  12-32, 38%.   

Phil can definitely shoot the ball, and if you combine...
1) a better understanding of the offense   2) fresh legs from less minutes  and 3) playing off the ball after Branch returns
I think that all adds up to a much improved Phil this year.
