FYI ... the poverty line in the US is somewhere $11k  for a single adult.   

I will say that the demographic on the SJU boards is somewhat skewed.  Knowing the backgrounds of a large number of the posters, most of us are able to spend a good chunk of time discussing basketball and the weather for a reason.  Large number of successful guys on these boards who have the money to go to games, travel and leisure time to enjoy discussing the game. I'm not saying this the case across the board, but for the most part, people on these boards aren't struggling to make ends meet and skating the poverty line.

I plan on graduating with a teaching degree next year, and the outlook is not good in terms of finding a job. Not sure I will be making much more than that right out of college.

Managerial work, training and developing sales force

Bob Turley, a former pitcher for the Yankees, who I believe won a Cy Young award in the late 1950's, was a "big wheel" at Primerica.

His nephew played baseball at St. John's.

Things are definitely different even for a law school graduate these days, especially considering the large amount of loans you have coming out of school. Best of luck as you start your career. I would suggest getting into the boring life of insurance defense or plaintiff/applicant work, people are always getting hurt on the job or filing civil lawsuits after an accident. This line of law provided for a comfortable (although not lucrative) life for me after I left adjusting claims while going to law school at night in my late 20's/

Appreciate the advice. I've been working as an associate at this job for 9 months. Doing Plaintiff's work in mainly PI with some Med. Mal. The loans make it a lot harder to live a comfortable life.

the pay scale of the NBDL must be looked at for what it is--it is an internship and as such the pay is good for an internship.  Like any internship, the interns are evaluated and those that perform the best are offered the full time job.  the NBA teams are investing money in the NBDL in order to find that "intern" who rises above the heard.

As to college, it is not a time to graduate if you have the WRONG degree.  Some majors are leading to high paying starting salaries for the folks who are at the top part of their class.  The song from the broadway show, Avenue Q, says it best--"What do you do with a BA in English"

Burrell gave a shoutout on Facebook to Evans, DJ, Paris, Moe and Hardy wishing them all luck with NBA Summer League.  6 logos were attached.  We know DJ is CLE, JB is GS, Moe is PHI, and Dwight is MIA.  The other two logos were PHX and CHA.  So Dunlap must have got someone an invite.

Newsie. For as long as I knew you on here we obviously knew your field and profession.  We you in the TV/Digital side as opposed to print?  Since Print is dying more and more each day.

well...the 78 hundred per was when i trained as an underwriter for a large commercial insurance company.  i switched careers and went into radio.  that was nirvana.  i won't go through the whole resume..but i spent about 20 years on the air at 1010WINS.  i moved over to fox because they offered a great pension plan...401k..medical benefits, etc that the three unions i belonged to (WRITERS GUILD, AFTRA and NABET) couldn't come close to touching.  I figured it was time to be a grown up and take care of my family.  the upside is i retire at the end of the week.  we'll see what happens from here.
