PMG:  Why do they need to share much of their football revenue?  Share everything else (basketball) and give them some token credit for football.   Still a better deal when all is said and done I am sure than staying in the decimated Big East...

Maybe I am mistaken but all conference members share in revenues when a school makes a major bowl appearance and the more teams you have in BCS bowl games the more revenue there is to share.

Unless they accept achools as "basketball only" why would the ACC schools want to add non-football teams to the league and have to give up Bowl revenue....

The BE set up is FB schools don't share football money with the hoops schools.   Same would apply to other conference if they had two different levels of membership I would assume.

False. Queens is on Long Island which is right on the Atlantic Coast. The Atlantic Coast Conference would make plenty of sense.

It's not a geographical thing.  SJU is just not an ACC school.  Neither is ND or BC but no need to follow their mistake.

Tiznow, do you think we fit better geographically with houston, smu, memphis, depaul, marquette, cincy or syracuse, pitt, maryland, nd, bc,  uva,

The big east spans 4 time zones!!! The acc only two now - and that depends wht part of the year it is in sourh bend.  We are on the atlantic coast.

PMG is right about football and revenue shares being part of the reason. As for teams leaving the Big East its purely financials due to football. Big East has terrible marketing deals, tv deals, and it's football is non existent. There isn't money in basketball.

D, are you alleging that ND will be getting acc football revenue? Or that we currently get big eat football revenue.  This isn't the issue.   They can contract so that the non football teams don't share in the football pie.  It's not rocket science.  Whether it financially makes sense or no is a question, but where st johns and gtown and nova would help is by increasing the bidding war for tv rights.  They'd get to hit all the big big east markets plus the acc.  Theoretically, espn or someone might pay more for that.  That's where it helps.  And they don't hurt anywhere.

I'd love to see an all Catholic school league with all the powerhouse schools and screw the Cuses, UCONNS etc.

ND will not be getting ACC football revenue AND ACC will not be getting ND football revenue.  What ACC gets is 5 games annually with ND, 2 to 3 on their network, ESPN-thus get ND games.  ND gets access to all ACC bowl game invites; i.e., whichever bowls have contracts with ACC will be allowed to select ND such as the Orange Bowl.

Bobre--agree with your conference--MSG will not be allowed to have hotdogs for the Friday semi finals

Saw ACC commish swafford on the Tony Barnhard show and he denies any interest in adding a 16th hoop school because they have one 15 team division so no need to balance out 2 divisions and football is even with 2 seven team divisions.

This Catholi League that some posters talk about sounds "cute" but why are we hell-bent on pushing out powerful programs such as Uconn, Louisville and Memphis.  We're afraid of the Big East being looted and becoming  mid-major conference, so our solution is to trash it and create a mid-major conference?  Makes no sense to me.

You make a good point. We can always form a BB conference

Let teams leave and keep paying.  Not many more places for them to go.  Only other I can see losing is Louisville.  Bottom line tough is that I certainly don't want to give up a conference with teams like Uconn, Cincy, Memphis, and down the line just because we don't play football.  I don't see any good reason to do so.  I agree it doesnt make much sense to dump it just for some false sense of pride.  We should still try to cling to the best bball conference we can, and for now that includes quite a few schools that play very mediocre football.

Sadly, I think UConn & L'ville will leave at the next real chance they get. I know Coach Pitino doesn't want to leave the Big East and he actually has a lot of sway with in the L'ville athletic department but the money that might become available to them is just too great to potentially pass up.

I think "Catholic  League" is only only a potential option if UConn & L'ville leave.

Agreed, and it's time for the Big East to be proactive rather than loot the A10 or CONF USA after Louisville and UCONN find new homes. We will be going through this again right after football and basketball seasons.

Getting back to the original topic, I personally don;t think the ACC will hit up our basketball only schools

Like most I would imagine just once, but if you're fiance is Alessandra Ambrosio I say keep her in your bed for as long as possible, even if the end is inevitable, if your fall back option is Patricia Heaton.  Nothing against Patricia Heaton.
