If he was really a one and done as far as eligibility it is not a huge loss IMO. We weren't making the tourney anyway and this will give CO more time.

Fwiw this weekend I was told Sanchez would not be eligible.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

Any way we can fight this, or are we in the wrong?

it hurts to say this, but life goes on, and i believe this is still a tourney team. Hope Marco clears.

I don't think we are in the wrong.  Most likely falls on his shoulders unfortunately.

Vegas has Mark Emmert as a 2 to 1 favorite over Poison in a boxing match and 3-1 in MMA

Using the Calipari excuse, nice!

I am not saying we did something wrong or we didn't. In fact I am the record as saying I don't have a problem with it even if it was something we did. My point is we are not sure what happened and up until today you personally either didn't think there was a problem or were in denial!
My point is, though I do not have a problem with it personally, this does fall on Coach's record, as do all of the Cal stuff that he was never individually officially blamed for. For all the people who love blasting Cal, coach 's last two recruiting classes have been more than tarnished, no?

No way of spinning this. Sanchez is one of our better players, with sound shooting, passing and decent defensive skills. Tourney or not, he would help us compete and give the program credibility. IMO, with him we would be in the hunt for NCAA spot and help us beat several ranked teams. Gift is simply not in the same class in terms of experience, court savvy, passing and handling ball in traffic. We may still do well, but dependence on Frosh, a risky issue, is more front & center. Poor depth may result in an early poor start considering decent opposition in a tight period. Detroit and Charleston tourney foes are nothing to sneeze at.

Lastly, if Orlando is a goner, I must apologize for being laid back about this situation and now voice my disappointment that we get into these situations too frequently.

I have a pretty good idea of what happened.  I haven't posted anything because its not fair to anyone involved.  I haven't blasted Cal but thanks for putting a blanket over everything and lumping me in.  Masterful job as always.  Since you brought it up Cal gets blasted for academics (Derrick Rose, Bledsoe)

These kids are academically cleared to play college basketball and at STJ.  So it has zero to do with academics is what I've been told repeatedly and also nothing in the press is saying it is.

Moose's point in another thread about depth may lead to a rocky start, considering Detroit & Charleston participants are good and schedule tight.

I think the issue of blame is overblown, we had so many ships to give

In the end the stats don't suggest blame

2011
Eligible Moe D'Angelo Garrett (although missed 1/2 year) Pointer Nuri Greene Gift
Not Eligble Pelle  Sampson

77% eligible

2012
Eliigible Sampson Obekpa Balamou Jones
Not Eligible Sanchez?
80% eligible

I assume Marco will be OK

4/5 players being eligible is not bad in my opinion.

I don't think the staff deserves blame for Sanchez if true

If this is true it is no different than Kanter and no one blamed Calipari for that one.

Fair point, just frustrated! Told Sanchez was unlikely last week, but certainly don't know cause. Without that in hand, I should reserve judgment on staff culpability. So difficult being a Met, Jet and Johnnie fan! Ha!

beyond the court, the loss of sanchez, also hurts from a recruiting perspective.  he's suppose to be NBA talent.  that's one less guy that lavin can claim he sent to the NBA.

You are way to defensive. I said "people" blast Cal. While I am pretty sure you are a person I did not single you out personally other than I used your post to reply to. I also think you are way to defensive of coach. I am a big Lavin fan. I was a big Louie fan and liked Fran. None of them are / were perfect though. You can be a fan and still recognize certain flaws.
Everyone liked to defend Norm by saing he had to followe Jarvis. Well guess what, Lavin's job was much tougher! He had to follow Jarvis, then Norm. To get players here he was going to have to take risks. Sometimes these things, whatever the reason are going to happen in pursuit of players!

One criticism of you I do have is this. If you do have inside knowledge and for whatever reason do not feel it appropriate to divulge it is understandable. However it is then annoying if you say you have inside knowledge, don't divulge but try to debunk posts by alluding to the inside knowledge.

I get defensive when people respond to my post (or copy my post and respond in your case) and proceed to say something I'm not involved in (ie bashing Cal)

I'll take note of your criticism for what I do and don't post.  Thanks for the heads up.  What post am I trying to debunk?

I'm not here to break news.  I don't get my rocks off breaking a story.  I'm grateful for the info I know as it keeps me sane when rooting for my favorite team.  When the reasons come out for this they will come out.  I happen to agree with you about the risks and also posted about depth earlier today to show that honestly provided they play Gift and even Felix this isn't the worst thing in the world.  People are entitled to blame Lavin.  He deserves a little bit because I think this could have been resolved a lot earlier.
