This game is going to be a handful for an opener.  We have a solid lineup so we won't be killed by size and we have our backcourt of Green and D'Lo returning which is key.  I hope D'Lo has his A-game ready.  We'll need to hit them hard in the frontcourt because McCallum is a Wooden candidate and a good one.  We can't be sloppy or we'll lose.  I'm really hoping we hear about Bourgault and/or Sanchez and have them game eligible which could help a bit.  Can't sleep on this Detroit team though.  Theyre no slouch.

McCallum and Doug Anderson combined for 47 in the opener.  McCallum will crest but we should be focuse on trying to get the ball out of his hands.  Team runs through him.  Let the rest of the team try to beat us.  Gotta play good perimeter D.  Let them drive past and have to contend with Obekpa, Sampson and Jones contesting shots.

FYI,
Detroit took 31  3's in their first game (against N Michigan).   Hit at decent rate, %35, so in case we weren't already thinking it - we need to guard the line Tuesday.

Just like every year I've been waiting for this game since last season ended.  Put in for this day off a while ago; it's the start of our season, and my father's birthday (one of jayro's 4 kids).  Expecting a lot of good things out of this year's team, as well as a lot of W's.  Go St. John's!!!

Last year, they pushed us around like rag dolls. We need to protect our court and come out strong. That game last year was a disgrace.

I'm looking forward to a physical battle.

Key for us in this game is nuetralizing McCallum.  We do that we have a huge advantage.  Need to rebound too.

Can't wait for this game!

This season, DLo has to earn respect. He's scored 5 points on 2-9 shooting.

Who know what the deal is here, annoying at the least?

“@KieranDarcy: Steve Lavin says D'Angelo Harrison will not start tomorrow vs. Detroit, but will play starter minutes”

WTF!@        What the hell is going on here??       I defended coach for benching him in the preseason; even though it was somewhat inconsistent (benched the first half of game one, plays 2nd half, but then benched all of game 2).        But now this?      Either D'angelo committed some heinous transgression that we don't know about or coach has lost his mind.      Either way we're not getting straight news about the situation.   This isn't a matter of coach expecting a heightened level of leadership from D'lo.   Can't be.

One thing after another as a St Johns fan Moose.   We should be used to this by now.    Nothing comes easy... ever.

Play like a starter. Then you can start. We have 5 players who have all earned their time. Let Harrison earn it too.

The sky is not falling...yet, but there is clearly more to the story than what Lavin has disclosed to the media.  Granted, it's Lavin's right to take whatever actions that he determines are best for the team, including not disclosing the full details of whatever ongoing issue he is having with D'lo, but this issue seems bigger than D'lo merely failing to fill the "leadership" role that Lavin had envisioned for him this year.

Poison, he was an all Big East Rookie.   He averaged 16+ a game as a freshmen.   He's earned his time.    I can understand benching him in the preseason, but you can't not start him in the regular season for no reason.   Coach isn't be straight about what happened with D'lo.    Or, coach is going over board with the discipline and leadership.   One of the two.   Because he's essentially been telling everyone that it's not big deal, and Harrison didn't really break any team rules, just hasn't been a good enough leader.

Well.. that's not a good enough reason to not start your best player.
