This guy has been on the $;

So, looking into the very near future here’s our very best guess of the sequence of events for the Big East.
1. Sign main television deal with NBC, with secondary deals with CBS and perhaps TBS or Fox–and ESPN.
2. Announce that the break up for the Catholic 7, as well as Rutgers, Louisville and Notre Dame will officially begin on July 1, 2014.
4.  Announce that the Big East will retain its name, leaving the Catholic 7 group to come up with a new name.
5. Announce that East Carolina will be included as a full member, joining Tulane in 2014 as a full member.
6. Announce that future expansion is on hold (with Tulsa and Massachusetts as logical contenders) until 2015

“@blauds: Defining week for Big East coming; deal with NBC likely, retaining Big East name also likely.  http://ajerseyguy.com

If you say so, but it would appear the 7 are not getting anything. hard to belief

We will probably get most of the NCAA tourney credits as well as MSG for tourney. I am sure c7 will have to give up a bit to leave a year early.

I am just not sure why the Big East would want to keep the name though and not just sell it to c7

Really I would think only UCONN would want it, Cincinnati and So Fla probably don't give a crap

The Big East is a quality brand that took years to build. Especially with all the changes that's happening, the name is the only thing BE has going for it. I thought the C7 had the rights to the BE name if they voted to disolve, does anyone know if this was true?

We did not dissolve because we would lose NCAA credits
Remember who broke the Slice news

One of the sites, maybe espn, had a copyright attorney say that if the league doesn't dissolve he believes the naming writes will stay with the football teams regardless if they are original members or not. In his opinion it is a continuing entity.

The C7 withdrew, Big East belongs to the football members. Only way C7 gets it is through a negotiation. As for MSG and BET, I would suspect MSG voids the contract and C7 negotiates a new deal.

I would imagine that the Big East tournament perhaps ends up in Hartford

There has been a good deal of speculation about who the other schools in the new league might be since the Catholic 7 informed the Big East in December that they were leaving the floundering league. In all likelihood, four schools are virtual locks to be invited: Dayton, Xavier, Saint Louis and Butler. The first three are Catholic schools. DeGioia and friends would probably be willing to make an exception for Butler because the school has become a national basketball power and would make the league’s television package a good deal more lucrative.

The conference leaders want six eastern and six western — really, midwestern — schools. The eastern division of the league will consist of Georgetown, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Villanova, Providence and either Richmond (also a non-Catholic school) or Siena — a late entry but a potentially appealing one because it’s a Catholic school that (more importantly) plays in a 15,500-seat arena in Albany, N.Y.

The western conference would consist of Marquette, DePaul, Saint Louis, Xavier, Dayton and Butler. If Butler decides not to leave the Atlantic 10 — which it joined only this season — or if the presidents decide to go with Catholic schools only, the University of Detroit Mercy would come into the picture. Creighton, another Catholic school considered a potential candidate, is considered too far west (Omaha, Neb.) for teams in non-revenue sports to travel.

If Xavier, Dayton, Saint Louis and Butler were to leave the Atlantic 10, it would be devastating for that conference, which would suddenly go from a 16-team league with a solid group of basketball schools to a 10-team league (Temple is leaving for the Big East and Charlotte for Conference USA after this season). It would still have Virginia Commonwealth, but no other school that has been a serious player on the national map in recent years.

I was thinking possibly Brooklyn but didn't another conference sign a deal there?

I don't think even Rucker Park would want the Big East football schools conference.

I am sure the lure of East Carolina, Tulane, SMU, and Houston is really appealing.

I would rather have Richmond over St Louis but I think TV deal will dictate getting into St Louis market plus they play division 1 baseball and soccer

I think they need 1 new east coast team to balance things out. So I think it will come down to VCU or Richmond. Hope its not Sienna. Too much of a jump despite playin in the Pepsi or whateva its call these days.

No, but VCU has a large enrollment, good athletic department budget, state dollars and a real decent basketball program.  They have upward mobility that schools like Siena doesn't.  I wish UMass would just drop football and they'd be in the equation for the East.  I'd rather Richmond than Siena.  Forget Detroit mercy as well.

No, I'm just saying that each of theses schools have different things that can help an overall athletic profile of a new conference. In VCU case they can also add lacrosse which matters to sju, nova, and gtown.

Fwiw, I don't think they'll add Siena.  They don't add much of a market.  That's Syracuse country.  They have s decent program and arena but don't offer much else moving forward.

why not share The Garden? It'd take some creative scheduling but with less teams involved in each league, you can pull off 2 tourneys in 8 days.

Come on choz, my saints spell it with one N not two! lol.

Im a siena fan so of course I am biased, but I think they have as much or more potential as Richmond (for what its worth I hope neither of them are chosen), they have a great following and a great arena which is now the Times Union Center. Rather Siena than Northeastern thats for sure. Too bad its not 3 years ago when they were coming off their tourny success.

Well no, it's not really Syracuse country, except perhaps to people who live in cosmopolitan Commack and think everything north of White Plains is in the artic circle. In fact, Loudonville is about equidistant from Syracuse and Queens. It's Syracuse country to the extent that Albany is the capital of New York and Syracuse is NY's team. Other than that, not so much.

Here's what Siena brings to the table. A nicer campus than SJ, in a nicer community than Jamaica. Better academics than SJ. A better fan base than SJ. Better facilities than SJ. Greater NCAA tournament success than SJ.  A more successful coaching tree (McCaffery, Orr, Deane) than SJ. An administration that's more commmitted to the success of the BB program than is SJ. Other than that you're right, they bring nothing to the table.

Without SJ having had the good fortune to step in a great big steaming pile of Lavin only the most delusional of SJ fans - that would be you incidentally - would not have aspired to Siena's level of success. Because the MAAC was where SJ was headed on a good day.

What Siena doesn't bring to the table is (1) an antedeluvian BB history (2) a coach who's capable of bringing in top 100 recruits and (3) a vitamin water billionaire. In a better conference they're certainly capable of competing against Seton Hall and Detroit Mercy.

Thank you backing up Siena foad but although I have never been to st johns campus and have only seen pictures, I have been to Siena's more than a handful of times and would be really surprised if their campus and facilities are nicer than ours.
