Poison noone is denying butler and good programs now, but neither has the history of gtown or marquette. If smart or Stevens leaves those programs could fall hard.  If jt3 leaves that would hurt gtown, but people would line up for that job.

Butler was good before Stevens.  Were they Final Four good?  No.

All it takes is for a team to get there.  Provided the assets are there and the admin is smart they can continue to maintain a top notch program.  You only as good as your next hire.  If anyone knows that its us.

This is another reason why they don't deserve the name.  One of the biggest 'names' in the conference is still looking to get out.  No doubt the same is for Uconn as well

Univ. of Cincinnati trustees today will vote on a proposed $2M in design money for a new pavilion at Nippert Stadium, "a project it's actively pitching as it tries to win entry to a different athletic conference." UC last month sent a video description of the $70M project to ACC school presidents. The renovation, targeted for completion in August '15, would allow the UC athletic department to "generate millions of dollars that it could reinvest in facilities" (CINCINNATI.com, 2/18).

Can't believe people are actually debating the merits of the new C7. As if we had any other choice?

We will add the best 3-5 schools and go from there.

Funny how times changes.
Back in the mid-90s, Pete Gillen jumped from Xavier to Providence.
Now I ask you: Whats the better job today?

i'm just not a big believer in waving the white flag.
i know the c-7 were virtually kicked out.  that doesn't mean the presidents couldn't creatively build something just as good as the old big east.

History is the problem. It's not Georgetown and Marquette that aren't pulling their weight. It's Depaul, Providence, Seton Hall, St.John's and Villanova. In the last 4 years, how many tournament games have they won? Nova has had a couple of great runs, but they still appear to be a weaker version of what they were. Right now, they are only team in that group who will dance w out major improvement.

If history was the determining factor, why not invite other teams that were once great? I don't see the PAC 10 rushing to add San Francisco. Is the Big 12 interested in Houston? No. What about the Bonnies? I don't ass much of a difference between them and us last 20 years.

As far as VCU and Butler go, they have been good programs before they have had this recent string of success. Didn't Anthony Grant coach VCU before Smart arrived?
I could be wrong, but 8 or 9 years ago, I recall VCU being a tough opponent. Tell me otherwise.

Newsie wanted us to sit and wait until we get booted and on rear ends.  The fact we were proactive and made twice as much money is irrelevant to him.

Football drives college sports. This C7 is a collection of 7 programs either too poor or too stupid to realize that. It's one or the other.

Please explain further.  Are you suggesting they should develop football programs and hemorrhage $ just to be part of a big conference?

I was against the new league initially like newsie. But the more I thaught about it the more I like the idea. IMO its just a matter of time untill UCONN and Cincy join the ACC.

Not sure if its true or not but this guy says that North Carolina has an offer from the big ten. I thought it would be a little while before it all started up again but the Acc may get poached a lot sooner than expected.

gross oversimplfication.

there was good reason for the C7 to be proactive and shake up the cadaver formerly known as the big east.

it's the plan that's chilling.  a small "catholic" conference won't be as good as the atlantic 10 in a few years.  you point to all that money that's supposedly coming in as the difference maker.  let's see it first.  this is the same mantra we heard about stephenson/landesberg/etc turning around st john's fortunes once they were on board.  the wishful thinking is laughable.

NO ONE is paying 30 million dollars (down from 50 million) for ten teams few care about.  this is another internet rumor from the same guys who told you in december orlando sanchez will be suiting up soon.  i suggest we wait for the news conference.

there are good plans out there.  maybe foad...in his spare time...can look mine up.  there are other good suggestions.  the reality is dorky college presidents, including our own, are heading up this new "enterprise".  you saw how well ours did since looie left.

here's what i predict: a dog of a conference...a few teams doing well, including ours as long as lavin is on board...a RARE final four appearance for any if its members and no national championships in the foreseeable future.

most of you will be happy with this...

You still have ties to your former employer.  Because they are linked to aggressive numbers that even on the low end would double our current take.  Not saying that will revolutionize our program but more $ is more $ and thats what every single one of these schools C7, Cuse, Pitt, A/M, Maryland pick whoever have left for.  More money.

You keep saying A-10.  The A10 was a league that would get 3-4 teams a year.  Now your taking their 2 best teams pretty much and adding in traditional programs.  There is no reason why a 10 team can't garner 5 or a 12 team garner 6 based on the flag bearers of the new conference.

I'm still waiting for what you would have done if you had the magic wand.  If you said it before just type it again.  Its not a doctoral thesis.  Would you have stayed in BE and watched Uconn and Cincy leave you at alter?  Would you have started a new conference and added more football teams?  Waited for the ACC invite that was never coming?

I agree w/ everything you're saying, but there is an important factor to consider here.  If the numbers rumored in the TV rights deal are accurate, these teams are going to have a much bigger budget to work with.  Maybe it'll make a difference or maybe it won't.  But when a team like St. John's or Providence or DePaul has more money to play with, they'll have a chance to further improve the program.  Better coaches, better facilities, etc.
