Funny that the C7, Cuse, Pitt, Louisville, and Rutgers are no longer in on the voting process. Basically I think it is just UCONN, Cincinnati, South Florida, and perhaps Temple. The new schools yet to join I don't think vote yet but it's naive to think that concurrence is not looked at from Houston, SMU, Tulane, Memphis, East Carolina, Central Florida, and perhaps Navy.

"The Big East’s television future is secure for the next seven years. Now Aresco and Company must make the break up with the Catholic 7 as smooth as possible. Sources in the Big East say that both sides are very close to reaching an agreement, perhaps as soon as the next few weeks.
The first major announcement will be the departure date. The consensus opinion seems to be that will be July of 2014, but on Saturday afternoon one Big  East source said that a departure by this July is still being discussed. How that would work that quickly remains to be seen.
After that, the issue of the name “Big East” also must be resolved. Both the football and basketball groups want the name, which belongs to the football group unless the league is dissolved in the next four months.
Once those two issues are settled, the Big East and ESPN can continue their relationship in relative peace."

“@blauds: Announcement of date of Catholic 7 official  breaking away from Big East could be made in the next few days http://ajerseyguy.com

So the C7 has not withdrawn, and the option to dissolve is still on the table. However unlikely it maybe, its still leverage. Whoever ends up with the name, its going to co$t them.

...we're getting a mediocre product.  that's it.  there's nothing any one of us can do about it.

I think this both true and false. On the one hand, the c7 is an obvious step down from the BE: we're losing Syracuse, Uconn, Pitt, Louisville, WV and replacing them with Saint Louis and whoever; we're keeping Depaul and Seton Hall. But on the other we're stepping down to a level where we can be competitive year in and year out, even when TGAPL leaves, which I have no doubt he will. That would never be the case in a league dominated by football schools. The end result of the drop in class will be a better more watchable product. If nothing else we'll be the muddy shoe rather than the doormat.
so we'd be just as well off in the CAA or MAAC?

Who cares about the name? MSG will likely throw about the contract for the tournament with the football schools. It may take a few years before everything reaches normalcy. Trust me, it's all about negotiations, both sides will resolve their issues and neither will be 100% happy in the end.

The C7 will get MSG and the football schools will keep the Big East name. '

The name is important. Has enormous marketing value.

It really does but I wouldn't give up a ton of the NCAA credits for it. The c7 chose to leave the league rather than dissolve it for a reason as they would have lost credits.

The football schools say they want the name and they do own it.

Let's see what happens with the negotiations over the next few weeks.

Which will disappear in about 18 seconds if the other 3 take the name.  Who's going to accept a BE in which the 2nd most prominent school, in BE terms, is Cincy and the third USF?

Exactly what its been all year long.  Aresco and company don't want the name.  It means zero to them and honestly the name looks like a bullet ridden corpse at this point after all it went thru.  However they hold the golden ticket.  If we want it, it will cost.  Do we want to pay for the antique car with the bumps and bruises?

Most of the members of the newly formed league won't be from the east coast.

Come up with a new name and let the play on the court turn it into the new Big East.

1. The seven non-FBS Big East schools have always wanted to exit for the 2013-14 season if they could get out in time and the TV deal -- with Fox -- was done. The problem is they can’t and don’t want to leave, according to a high-level source within the seven, until they have secured the other three schools to be a 10-team league. The seven are confident, though, that they can extract three schools (likely Butler, Xavier and one other) on short notice. The Atlantic 10 confirmed that it would cost each school $2 million to get out early, money that won’t be an issue for the seven and Fox to offset. The logistics of setting up a league, including soccer in August, are what could keep the seven in the Big East until the fall of 2014.
