Positives
« on: December 21, 2012, 01:22:40 PM »
Obekpa is quite impressive, but like any fresh, has deficiencies. Would anyone have thought that he would be such a contributor so early in his career?

Sampson is solid and blossoming.

Green, Garrett, and Pointer will be good four year players.

Harrison, though vexing at times, is a born scorer, something we have lacked for a while.

Felix has shown solid potential and really gets after it.

Jury still out on Marco and Christian, but give them time.

Branch may not be Steve Nash, but he was a top recruit. IMO he fares well.

For me, I am happy to root for these guys and expect progress this year. If we keep a solid nucleus together, why can't we be a threat to do damage in NCAAs next year. Who knows, with some luck and development, getting to dance this year is possible. In no way will I be a member of the world of "Negativia" which pervades this site often.

I hate to put it on one guy, but our offense is stagnant. Branch needs to be the goods, or we're going to the CBI.

I can't get you.  One day your positive, next day your negative.  Very confusing

I am positive. I have faith in this team, but saying that we haven't played like an NIT team yet, isn't just negative, it's an objective opinion of where we stand. That can change, but we have a lot of work to do.

Samson has actually exceed my expectations. A much more polished offensive player than I had anticipated.

Not sure how anyone can be truly disappointed in a guy like Jones , who was essentially a top 300 player expected to do nothing.  Lavin, being the politician he is, pumped the kid up , along with some of the fan's expectations.  He just needs to get his confidence back.  I agree he is more of a 3 than 4 , and is playing out of his natural position.  Writing him off at this juncture is asinine.

Obekpa has been everything I expected and more.  Greene has done a great job being asked to run the team for 36 minutes a game from the PG position...one that is not his natural position.

i thought we would be further along at this point than we are.  i've only seen consistent play out of three guys so far.  but i still believe in the team.  a strong big east season puts us in the tournament.  we have to start seeing the improvement everybody is expecting.  hopefully branch will give us the pg play to put us over the top.  go st. john's.

The team, though frustrating at times is enjoyable to watch. Personally I am still in the anything is better than Norm honeymoon faze so for now that is good enough for me. I think we win 16 or 17 and make NIT.

One side note for the "we will be great next year posse." If Sampson does something silly like declare for the draft, we will be right back in the same boat as the last two seasons.

We have lost 3 games.  San Fran is the only loss the majority of the board would not be pleased with however almost every team has a slip up game and that was it.  Outside of that you can argue the other 2 losses to Murray and Baylor were expected.  We had leads and blew them.  So while a fan might be pissed we blew leads vs. those two and slipped up against an inferior team on the road in USF.  At the end of the day we are pretty much in line with where we should be, maybe 1 more loss than we should have.  As for how we won the games, frankly thats not my cup of tea.  Its a win.  That's all I really care about.  Besides you learn more from tight games than 35 point shellackings.

Lavin did pump up Jones ala Rex Ryan. Why not pump the kid privately or to the team-why take it to the media to raise expectations and than everyone feels he is underachieving. I would have been happy to read he is a talented player who has the potential to help us which he is. There were reports he was a one and done player-come on now.

Right on. We have one "bad" loss. Murray St is a good team as is Baylor. We are 8-3, not too bad. We hung with Baylor and were clearly better than Murray St, we just blew it. We steal one from a top half BE team and we are right back on track. It's also important to remember that this team is only going to get better as the season wears on.

I like our team - they are young  and are going to make mistakes. As long as no one leaves early we are going in the right direction . Positive about everything .

Our one bad loss isn't that bad of a loss as long as we have have a solid Big East record. We should have beaten USF but I don't think that will hurt us come selection time. The ticket to the big dance will be made by the BE season not by what we should have done early on.
