Isn't that what these sites are about? The back and forth. Unfortunately we don't root for Duke, so we can't all come on here and  agree on how great everything is. As a rule I don't like to bash the players and I really have only done it to three guys and I least I try to do it in a fun way. Unless Dave, whoever runs Redmen and fun(HAAAAA) agree to outlaw bashing of players it is going to continue. Guys like Burrell(good player) and Harrison (shade under great player) have gotten bashed, so under those rules Greene is def fair game.

When Phil first arrived everyone agreedhe was a 4 year player.  His first development was changed in year one with the Nuri departure.  He is in year two and still learning to be a PG and he has an injury.  If you look at him as 4 year player, you would say year 2; comes off the bench and provides a lift to the team in his minutes but he is not playing that roll again given the 3 guard line up.  Coach's decision for fans to live with--and it has put us on  a 4 game win streak.  He still has 2 and 1/2 years to go and grow which we will see.  A leader as a senior.

The problem with Greene is that he plays too much. The problem with him playing too much is that he's being groomed to be the go to guard next year when Harrison's in Poland.

The problem with Greene is that he plays too much. The problem with him playing too much is that he's being groomed to be the go to guard next year when Harrison's in Poland.

Exactly Fun/Foad!  Greene is/will be fine for what he is, a decent 2 guard that serves to compliment a well balanced team.  I doubt he will ever be the "man" for this team at the 2 spot the way Harrison has been.  And if Greene cannot be that guy for this team, his minutes should reflect that.

I was responding to your post. You did a fine job explaining why there is back and forth in regards to Greene. I was just stating if you take away that back and forth you would be left with is +1 posts. That is probably how the Duke and UNC boards look. At least on Kentucky boards you could debate how many years before they wind up on probation.

I respect the opinion of all my friends on the board and do not at all mind posts that bash my illegitimate son, Phil Greene, or any other player.  In fact, I rather enjoy the tete a tete.

I hope that the KIDS on the team do not read our foolishness as it might be difficult for them to take anything positive from it and not feel stung by the negative.

It appears to me that the team is moving in the direction of a point guard by commitee approach in which Sir Dom, 3'lo, Mean Joe and the Aggie all take turns bringing the ball up and having the ball primarily in their hands.  Especially, when Branch is off and the other 3 are on.

I'd expect this new dynamic to bring legions of fans to the exquisite, acquired taste that is Phil Greene.

I'm with Carmine on this.  I think people are getting carried away with the Phil Greene negative stuff.

Clearly he was slumping offensively lately.  But he is a solid player for SJU who is important whether coming off the bench or starting.

I also like the fact that Phil doesn't pout and doesn't carry on even when he is struggling.  In other words he is really good character guy on the team.  And the team has won 4 straight.

I don't understand why we need to be negative towards him or anyone at this point.

No...I happen to like him as a SG off the bench...but in no way is he a point guard

Why can't we critique a players game though.  Are people coming up with some nicknames and driving points home?  Yea.  But that is nothing different than anyone else that posts on these sites and drives home their points.  Same as those who rip Harrison and his attitude, Obekpa and his FT's, Branch and his TO's, Jones and his disappearance, Marco and his lack of foot speed, etc....

The problem is certain posters think Phil is the best think since sliced bread.  And if he gets thru a game with less than 2 turnovers and shoots above 35% without slipping on the ground he needs to be 1st team BE.  So they egg on those who call him Dribbles or the Human Circle and it ensues.  I'm the first one to say we don't need to compare him and Branch every game.  But if someone says the offense runs better thru Branch, the Greene machine doesn't need to start comparing numbers to numbers because like you said they have won 4 in a row.

Well I guess I don't read the baord that closely because I don't know people who think Phil is that good.  I do think he is the type of player who can paly major minutes on a good team that plays in the post season.  I like his stroke and his long arms can cause math up problems.  But he is also young and prone to slumps.

But again SJU has won 4 in a row.  I can't bring myself to complain about a lot at this point.  That's just me.

He is the perfect 6th man to me.  He looks slow but I'm sure his hip is seriously effecting that.  His tear drop in the lane is so sweet to watch.  He still can't keep a D honest from 3 and he takes good care of the ball, almost too good though.

He was the lowest ranked kid throw a ton of minutes and even more once Nuri left.  He is growing up too fast.   He needs to stay healthy and I think we would all be happier.

Moose, posters don't think about the fact they are slamming kids who play hurt.  Boothe played more than half a season with a partially torn tendon in his thumb while many posters enjoyed picking his games apart from the safety of their cubicles.

If I recall Boothe's injury didn't come out until after the year.  And Greene's injury really hasn't been in the media much.  Lavin and other coaches have said it at pregame receptions.  Heck Phil played all last yr with hand issue and it was never said till this year.  Can't get on posters who don't know about injuries. BUT also I think posters will lay off if they know something like that.

Phil has bad hip and most know that.  He just gets picked apart because when he is in the game you can go to the bathroom, get a beer and come back and he still hasnt moved from the top of the key

Most of the venting was probably coming from fans fed up with Norm.  Criticism is part of what they sign up for.  Overboard criticism no.  I don't think people have been harsh on Phil.
