Sorry to join the party late.  Internet went town in Blacksburg around noon and just now came back up!

Didn't see it mentioned in the thread, but we just tied last year's entire win total, with  up to 21 games remaining.   FWIW, the biggest turnaround in wins for SJU was from 1984 to 1985 -  13 wins:  18-12 in 1984, 31-4 in 1985.

BTW, elsewhere in the thread there was discussionof the bulk of the opposing bigs vs. our front line.  Someone made the comment the kid today was 300 lbs - when are we going to see BIGGER?

that's what's DEFINATELY remaining.  But up to 21 games do remain.  All that's required are the RIGHT  9 wins in 21 games.  In other words, we could play sub 500 ball and still play the 21....

Much of the run by SH today and in other games have come with Dom on the bench. He's got to stop bad fouls or sit some to keep him out of trouble. He's the guy that makes the other team rush their O. Without him we hardly ever get run outs, and DLo gotta take over the game in the half court.

If he turns down the aggression he's not the same Sir Dom.  I would tell him to go for it all the time.

Tiz, I didn't suggest Steve handcuff the kid. Coaches work with players all the time on not committing bad fouls. It just happens Dom is not foul happy, but we need him to close out games, and there have been a few occasions this year when Steve had to get him out. I really think Dom is on his way to getting all BE mention for all the good stuff he does out there. 

Phil played well but I agree that Branch was out for too long.  The second that PGIV cools off a bit he should come out of the game unless Branch is on foul trouble.

Not just that he was out, but even when he was in in the second half we seemed to keep the ball away from him.  It was odd.

Watching that game court side today I just don't understand Lavin's rotations at all but then again, SHU's made no sense to me at all either.

How can you keep Branch out for such a long stretch in the 2nd half...

Also - we gave SHU every chance to take that game away from us.. They had multiple wide open looks in the last 2 - 3 minutes and just didn't knock them down. Our defense down the stretch was terrible. Multiple people around me were commenting on the kill the clock offense we seem to fall back into at some stretch in every game. It like we are playing not to lose at times instead of putting our foots on the other teams neck.

SJU is one tough group of kids, they play very hard basketball and for a young team they have no fear at all.

If Obekpa can get any clue on offense he is going to be a special player. He completely alters the game from the defensive end of the court.

We went into kill the clock mode waaay too early.   But it's not surprising anymore, because we do that every time we have a lead

Yeah that's what I thought too. I actually wanted us to use the clock when we were up about 10.

We have a very bad tendency of getting careless w the ball and taking bad shots when we have a decent lead. SH closed the lead from 16 down to 10 in the seccond half and we could have shut it down with a patient bucket. But DLo fired an off balance three and we had a bad turnover ( cant remember the culprit) and instead of stopping the mini run, we poured gas in the fire and they got it down to low single digits. Not the first time thats happened and it has to stop...against the DePauls and Seton Halls of the world you can recover, against the bog boys it will cost us dearly.

the other frustrating thing is that they do the quick pull up jumper with nobody else around to grab the rebound so if they miss the shot it is an easy rebound for the bad guys.

Did not like the way this game started but we closed out the half strong. When The Hall switched to the zone late in the second half our guys acted as if they never saw a zone defense before? Team confidence is on the rise. Keep it up!

Outplayed branch today!, and closed out another one in the final minutes.

He didn't out play Branch today, he just played more in the second half - for some unknown reason. The teams entire offensive flow is so much better when Branch is on the court.

Green was also out there for almost all of the SHU run back into the game in the second half.

What offense was Greene running in the second half? I saw no offense sets from him. He was so bad at it, Lavin called plays in the closing minutes where he didnt even use Greene as the point guard. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he made a few shots, but the more he plays out of position, it seems the more damage he does. To us.

There was one play in particular where Branch pushed the ball up the floor so fast that a lot of people probably didn't even see him find Sampson for the layup. Branch turns it over, yes, and he's still learning, but going w Greene at the combined with our end of game hands at your sides d almost threw it all away.

We have a long way to go to be considered a good team, but we can go to work today with a smile because things are certainly promising.

How was the crowd yesterday?

Small, 7,000 or so I guess, but IMO spirited.
