A road win at Cincy is a good win.

Here is what they need to do and NOW they will probably do the opposite. LOL!!!

Obviously if they beat either Syracuse or Louisville on the road that is HUUUUGGGE.  Short of that, beat DePaul at home and go to 6-3.  Go 5-4 over the second half.  Do that by sweeping the 4 home games (USF, Marquette, Pitt and UCONN).

Win 1 more road game, preferably either ND or Georgetown.  They also have Providence on the road and any win on the road is good but obviously that wouldn't be big time quality.

That gets you to 19-11, 11-7 in the conference (Win 2 of 3 against ND, Georgetown and PC and now you are 12-6).  How many 11-7 teams in the Big East with 7-8 top 100 wins including a top 30-35 win on the road didn't make the NCAA's, especially with an expanded field?

I know it is only one criteria, but West Va was the only at Large team last year with less than 20 wins.

Bottom line is this:

St. John cannot simply take care of business from here on out and expect an invite.

They dug theyselves deep, deep, deep into a hole and they gotta dig theyselves out.

Right now, they on level 4 of Dig-Dug and they gotta get theyselves to level 10.

I don't think StJ deserves to get in, but just to play devil's advocate, West Virginia was 19-13 last year with a 9-9 Big East Record.  That's borderline.  Maybe level 6 of Dig-Dug?

I'd take those predictions minus the loss to Providence.  We're picked to beat Pitt but that game makes me nervous.  Add in BE tourney games and I say if we get to 20 wins we're in the tournament.

Considerin Steve Adams is less Kevin McHale and more Rob Werdann's way-less-talented lil bro,  I'll take our chance.

I think their RPI to finish including the Tourney was 61.  Basically it was between them and SHU for the last BE bid.  They beat Kansas St on the road non-conference.  HUGE non-conference win last year probably got them in the Tourney with an otherwise pedestrian resume.  UCONN got in last year at 8-10.  Much better RPI then WVU though.

Also working in WVU's favor last year was a critical non-call loss at Syracuse if you guys remember.   In fact it was a year ago this weekend.

Keita blocked a shot that replays showed was a clear goaltending that would have sent the game into OT and the non-call perhaps disallowed WVU a huge quality road win opportunity.  Don't think the committee doesn't take that into account.

End of season (After BET)

Men's Basketball - West Virginia Mountaineers (2011-2012)

RPI Rank: 57    SOS Rank: 18     Record: 19-13 (9-10)

Another factor, and maybe not a big deal, was that they didn't win a single game in the BET.  I can hear the talk that if you ware 19-12 and heading into the BET, that you would need to win a game or two.  They didn't.  But I realize every year, there are question marks.

And as Choz was saying, recent history has shown that middle of the pack, big conference teams haven't faired well.    But of course, someone has to fill out the at-large bids.  Would you rather see a third place team from a mid-major get in?

Me no.  I'd rather see the highest RPI teams get in.  They have played the tougher teams.  Cindarella stories are great but I think there was too much of a push at a time for them.  And most don't work out.

George Mason, VCU and Butler have laid the foundation for committees to reward mid-majors come Selection Sunday.

And along the same lines has a 7-10 seed from a power conference made a nice run in recent history? I can't think of one off the top of my head.

Best outcomes for low seeds since expansion to 64 teams in 1985:

No #16 seeds have ever advanced past the Round of 64.

A #15 seed has reached the Round of 32 six times:
Richmond over Syracuse in 1991
Santa Clara over Arizona in 1993
Coppin State over South Carolina in 1997
Hampton over Iowa State in 2001
Norfolk State over Missouri in 2012
Lehigh over Duke in 2012

A #14 seed has reached the Sweet Sixteen (Regional Semi-finals) twice:
Cleveland State in 1986
Chattanooga in 1997

A #13 seed has reached the Sweet Sixteen (Regional Semi-finals) five times:
Richmond in 1988
Valparaiso in 1998
Oklahoma in 1999
Bradley in 2006
Ohio in 2012

A #12 seed has reached the Elite Eight (Regional Finals) once:
Missouri in 2002

An #11 seed has reached the Final Four and played in the national semi-final game three times:
LSU in 1986
George Mason in 2006
VCU in 2011

A #10 seed has reached the Elite Eight (Regional Semi-finals) seven times:
LSU in 1987
Texas in 1990
Temple in 1991
Providence in 1997
Gonzaga in 1999
Kent State in 2002
Davidson in 2008

An #8 seed has reached the National Championship three times, one of which was later vacated:
UCLA in 1980 (Vacated)
Villanova in 1985
Butler in 2011

A #8 seed has won the National Championship once:
Villanova Wildcats in the 1985 tournament.

Funny thing about Nova is even though they were an 8 and obvious underdogs, their entire frontline made the NBA.

Maybe their fans travel better than SHU's.  You think the committee, in a very close call, might take that into account?

You know, I have heard that quite often in College Football (bowl games), I am not so sure it factors into college basketball.  I would think that most of the NCAA tourney games sell out ... is that not the case?   The last time I went, we walked up and bought tickets the day of the tournament, and our upper section wasn't packed.

In the end though, the NCAA is all about money, so it must play a part, even if it is a small part.

May be a stretch but NCAA committee may look at us for a bubble spot considering we did it without Orlando Sanchez.

If we win 20 games including the BET I think we're in. And I don't think 20 wins is a stretch at this point.

Kind of
Don't know what to think of this but it just popped up in my head. LOL
Not that they would just give away a spot it tourney but kind of like when they lower your seed in the event of injury like Keynon Maryin at UC and DJ Kennedy

Don't care.  Just want to make ncaa's.  Lots of schools would hate to play us as a low seed.
