This is a player of the game thread, not player of the 1st half.

That is for whoever voted for Mr. Greene.
Take a guess. Won't reveal his name but his initials are carmine abbatiello. :)

Negative.  I may be overly opinionated but reality and fact are the very cornerstones of my opionions.  N Deliliah was the only possible pick for Pog today.  I hope this alarming trend of great first halves and poor second halves for Mean Joe ends.

Greene does deserve some credit for that game.  He had a positive attitude and was bouncing all over the place.  Dribbling back and forth along the top of Cuse's zone, afraid to challenge it (thankfully), doing his best to hit some shots.  He deserves credit for playing out of position and doing his best, not sulking.

Did you catch the 2nd half?

Yeah, I mean I'm saying that despite the fact that Greene was totally ineffective and it was uncomfortable watching him dribble back and forth across the top of Cuse's zone (the announcer said something about SJU violating a fundamental rule of basketball re. the "judicious use of the dribble"), he had a positive attitude and seemed to be trying hard.  So I'm giving him credit for the "old college try"!  He is being asked to play out of position.  We all know Greene can be really good when he has a chance to do what he is good at, hitting that nice mid-range shot where he penetrates and pulls up, hangs in the air, hit it.  Think Greene is fundamentally our best guy to have aimlessly dribbling across the top of Cuse's zone with their 36 game winning streak?  No, it is D'lo.  But D'lo would implode and start jacking up balls, sulking.

So, yeah, I saw second half and think that Greene deserves credit for walking unarmed into enemy fire.

Were giving brownie points out now, huh?

I've been one of Greene's biggest critics.  But with a caveat.  Greene is a 20 mpg player.  And we're seeing that more and more with his disappearing acts in the 2nd half.  He ends up going 4 of 6 to 5 of 13 from the field.

I wish someone had time to go back and watch all the times he's dribbled and either hoisted up a shot as time expired of passed the ball to another guy and forced him into that role.  While not a 'turnover' for the statisticians it would be a nice fun number we can tack onto it.

You're right, he gives up the ball and avoids the turnover, but often he's left another player with the option of taking a bad shot or turning it over himself.

I did my job for 32 seconds.  Your turn :)

Agree with your points.  I actually thought at the beginning of this season that Greene would see his playing time really diminish and that he'd end up a role player and maybe log 15 min a game.

Like many others I tend to gravitate -- even give brownie points -- to the "team first" guys.  The guys who will do anything for their team, cheerfully, whenever asked.  And while I can't shake liking D'lo and wanting him to be successful and to become a leader, D'lo's failure of leadership leaves me watching Greene be the guy to step up and take on the role.  So Greene isn't effective as we can all see, but he is trying hard.  So coming away from the Cuse game my take is that Sampson was clearly our best player but Greene's good effort deserves some brownie points.

By the way, who is going to be the leader of this team?

I just posted on Redmen and will say the same here-

Harrison is not a leader and never will be. For all those who love to now call me his caddy for my defending on him I've been on record saying that from the beginning of the year when all that talk from Lavin about Dee not be a leader popped up. Just because he is our best offensive threat and leading scorer doesn't mean he has to be a leader. I wish most of the posters would realize that.

Also nobody questioned Greene's effort or desire.  I have no doubt they are busting their ass out there.  All of them.  Even the other whipping boy Harrison.  He is taking bumps trying to draw fouls, unsuccessfully sadly.

Lastly I posed the question a few months back about who is the leader of the team.  Dave said it was Dom.  Some people chuckled.  Dom has improved this year and does seem to now be taking a leadership role.

Haha, very funny that people call you Harrison's "caddy."  I like him too, most of us do.  As you say, he is our best offensive threat, but not our leader.  And that is okay.  So long as D'lo is a positive guy and good teammate I'll support him.

Good point about if the time likes him.  All signs point to yes.  They didn't like Nuri.  We know how that turned out.

The annoying announcer was killing Harrison. Funny I don't remember Hurley being brought to task for pouting as much as Harrison does. I wonder why.....

Harkless was clearly our best player. Sampson is having a good year but Defenses are def trying to lockdown on Harrison. Not having a playmaker, another outside threat or low post option is also hurting Harrison.

IDK if it was clear that Harkless was our best player. Better talent for sure, but game in game out during the bigeast conference season I think the case could easily be made for Harrison.

But WSJU I know you dont always agree with BE coaches ;)

And I didnt say he was better, just that it wasnt clear. Moes rebounding gave him the edge. Besides, those bigeast coaches aren't incapable of getting it wrong. Maybe they wanted Moe to turn pro so he wouldnt be around to beat up on them for another year.

I think most people geared last year to stopping Mo and Harrison benefited from that. It is the opposite this year. People are focusing on Harrison to Sampson's benefit.
