So, assuming every thing we read today (keeping BE name, new league starts in the Fall of this year, and we add Xavier and Butler to the C7) comes to fruition, why would ND opt to still go to the ACC.  They are not playing FB in the ACC, rigth?  They would seem to be better suited to join (remain in) the new BE in all sports but FB.  Is it a money issue?

We have seen a number of schools back out of joining the BE for FB over the past six months.  I have to think ND is currently also considering a new move- to the new BE.

ND has a football agreement with the ACC to play a set number of games with them each year and also be able to get into ACC-tied bowl games.

Is MSG still the home of the tournament?

the only FB positive for ND is they get into ACC tied bowls.  Their strenght of schedule goes down as this means they must play 5 games vs. ACC and drop (already announced) Michigan and probably another long term rival game.  Wait for UNC, Clemson Fla St and Miami also leave.

Hope Thamel is right.  The new league may be playing their first tourney in MSG in 12 months.  Also, it looks like the Fox deal will pay a premium and will be announced next week.  They will promote the new league next Fall providing this league with more exposure than any other league.

This is one bad day of news for Uconn and for the people who love dumping on St John's and the C7.

It stands for Catholic 7.  A more appropriate name that will never go away.

It's ironic that the basketball only schools collectively aren't so good at basketball, but by staying together they got what they wanted, and they did it the right way, by retaining the name, and allowing the conference to move forward by adding Butler and Xavier.

That's pretty funny...newspaper headlines and ESPN lead are still using it today.  This tag won't be going away for a long time.

Call it whatever you like. I've buried that name in the ground where it belongs.

The Catholic 7 isn't as much of a conference name as it is a collection of schools that chose a brave path.  I think the name will stick a bit because the C7 had sort of a basketball revolution, in a landscape where thought is/was that there was no life beyond big football.

We will be the Big East, but the C7 started the movement for better or worse.

Adding butler and Xavier. Possibly slu, Dayton, etc. Sounds like a fun league to me.

I prefer to think of them as the non football schools. It's more accurate. And it's why these 7 schools were in the mess they were in. They did the best they could after they made the mess.

Yes we will be remembered as one of the original C 7 members that was instrumental in morphing back to the new Big East
