I would start 3 guards unless we are playing a really big opponent.
G- Jordan
G- Harrison
G- Branch
F- Sampson
F- Sanchez

6th men- Dom at the forwards and Phil at the guard.  Obekpa starts against team that are bigger.  Would hope that he gets 20 minutes a game off the bench without starting..if that's possible.

Lavin will have his work cut out for him managing minutes ...He's got plenty of help on the sideline, or so it seems,  so lets see them get it done.

I think Lavin likes the 3 guard offense after going with it last year. Your lineup would be mine as well. In any event it is going to be a 10 man rotation with Hooper and Gift getting the least in the rotation.

Why is it that no one has told Lavin that Gift is going to Harvard?

@STJCoachLavin: Frontline depth will pay dividends. Chris O'bekpa, God's Gift, Chris Jones, Orlando Sanchez, and Jakarr Sampson give STJ balance up front.

"3. St. John’s coach Steve Lavin is confident about the momentum in the offseason. Lavin listed these facts: Orlando Sanchez got a year of eligibility for next season, they won a close game in the NIT, point guard Rysheed Jordan signed, Jakarr Sampson decided to stay instead of leaving for the NBA, a total of 14 players will return when redshirts and walk-ons are included, and the anticipation that the Red Storm will make a major step forward in the new Big East. The safe picks to push for bids are Marquette, Creighton, Georgetown, Villanova, Butler and Xavier. But St. John’s may be a better pick than Providence if there is going to be a team pushing the above six for a spot in 2014."

The fact remains that when we are mentioning the top 7 teams in a 10 team conference as being good enough to possibly push for an NCAA bid, the conferenc will be pretty strong when all is said and done.

Disagree that butler and Xavier are safe picks.

Agreed.  I get it, SJU has not enjoyed consistent success in awhile but clearly people are not analyzing the rosters and just assuming that past success will lead to immediate future success.

First off SJU hasn't been playing in the A-10 or the Horizon Conference in the past.  And Butler and Xavier have not been playing in the Big East in the past.

Xavier did not even make the NIT this past year yet they get the benefit of the doubt over SJU?  And listen I love Chris Mack and Brad Stevens, great coaches.  But looking at that list implies SJU is down near DePaul and SHU this coming year, NO WAY.

Also makes it pretty apparent D'angelo will be back with the team

Left out this one:

Steve Lavin ‏@STJCoachLavin 10h
STJ perimeter attack will be made up of Pointer, Greene, Branch, Balamou, Harrison, R Jordan, Hooper, and  Bourgaut. Competitive practices!

Weird. I thought Lavin didn't want Harrison back and he was a lock for Baylor?
