I can't imagine how 10 schools can't sell out a 19,000 seat arena.  SJU, Hall, Nova, PC and G'town would fill the place.  Marquette brings in a nice number of fans.  I'm sure that Creighton, Xavier and Butler will also be able to bring a decent number of fans.

Exactly the tickets will be sold.  The only question is if the play is captivating enough to get ppl to show up.  And not just buy the ducats and not show up because a Creighton-Butler final isn't captivating enough.

Nationally ranked #6 St. John's vs. #10 Georgetown in the final will draw just fine.   ;)

Memo to ACC

“Dead is a strong word” – Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, responding to a question on whether the idea of the conference expanding was dead (DETROIT NEWS, 5/16).

Why? Doesn't our conference own MSG rights for 10+ yrs?

Now is the time for a good ole ACC raid.  Hopefully a big gun like UNC leaves for the Big Ten.

Big east needs to step up and thwart the posturing, which is being lead by dipstick Boeheim and other judas programs.

If it were even theoretically possible, we should offer UNC all kinds of concessions to play them at MSG instead of Syracuse, with the agreement that UNC insist keeping the ACC tournament away from MSG.

Though I know that's not possible, I do wish we could schedule another traditional power instead of Syracuse.  We should not schedule them if we could.   (And while I'm at it, I like how we haven't announced that we haven't scheduled UCONN - let them rot up in CT)

When they first announced that they were leaving, I was all for turning our noses up at them and playing the part of the pouty little girl. However, SU will just schedule another team at MSG if we won't play them.

IMO, now, if we want our voice to carry authority, I think we need to start by beating them. I for one, don't believe we can. We'll see.

It's an interesting debate whether to schedule them or not. I can see both sides of it.  Right now I prefer to be bitter and not schedule them, even if it hurts us a bit.   Let them schedule one of their home games there against an opponent.  I would rather we somehow replace them with a different tough opponent.

As to whether we can beat them or not, who knows - it seems like we have a pretty good team this year.  It's not the end-all, be-all whether we win or lose against them.  It seems like we'll have several opportunities against solid competition in our non-conference schedule.   I hope we have a good showing against Wisconsin the first game of the year and set the right tone for the season.

Agreed. We are bound to beat them...we've been due for a while. Now we finally have the talent to make it a real game instead of a 20 pt loss. If you want to considered among the best you have to beat the best. Don't run from the Orange, run right at them. Beating them will be a major wake up call in NCAA basketball. Avoiding them would give their fanbase just another reason to make fun of us. We may lose by 20 again this year for all I know, but hey I'd like to at least try and take them down.

St John's has to win the December game and send Syracuse back upstate with a loss.

The team has to rise into the top twenty and be leaders in the new league.

Then the fans will support this team at MSG.  NY is loaded with bandwagon fans who don't show up for losing teams.  Hopefully, the loser tag is in the past.

The ACC is interested in having their tournament at MSG.   The article says nothing about MSG being willing or able.
The ACC wants to float this idea, that's fine.   Nothing is going to come of it.   The new BE would have to fall flat on its face to trigger any escape clause, and that's not going to happen.   Not to mention when push comes to shove the Carolina area fans won't want to move the tournament up here because (as we've seen first hand) it'll be a series of Syracuse home games.
Duke, UNC, NC State, and Wake are not going to let that happen.

Agree with this comment from Providence writer/announcer;

"• You will continue to hear a lot of talk from the ACC about moving their men’s basketball post-season tournament to MSG in New York. Quite a bit of the talk will come from Syracuse-related sources, fans, media and coaches. Of course. They stand to benefit the most from such a move. But keep this in mind – the ACC is still a southern-based league. Duke and UNC fans might make the trip once or twice out of the sheer novelty of going to NYC, but they won’t go for a permanent move from their backyards in order to “favor” an outlier like the Orange. And this entire question/possibility becomes moot if the new Big East schools – and their fans – step up and sell the Garden OUT. Then, there won’t be any reason for MSG to consider a contractual switch. Remember this, Friar fans"

Exactly. New Yorkers pay a lot of money to live here, and they don't want to associate with losers. And like it or not, that's St.John's.

For some years many have said MSG is not what it use to be, and its no longer an attractive selling point to recruits. Well that maybe true to those who don't matter, i.e the media, but it appears to still mean a lot to those who do (players and coaches).

This is all fueled by ESPN and Syracuse.  Espn is pissed they lost the Big East Tourney at MSG.  Cuse is pushing. The issue.  The problem is that I don't think all the other big dogs in the ACC like Duke and UNC want to come up to the conference tourney every year and be at a Syracuse home game in every session.  When. The tourney is down south, they have 5 schools in the Carolina's alone and all their fans can get into the mix.  Taking a southern regional tournament out of the south and bringing it into the arms of Syracuse IMO would not benefit those schools all too much.  I know why Syracuse wants it for sure.

I know Boeheim is saying his recruits want to play there.  No doubt, but if they do, they should have chosen St. John's.  A kid like McCullough is lucky if he gets to play one season under Boeheim at all nonetheless in MSG.  Good luck.

And this is why we shouldn't schedule Syracuse.  Presumably we can schedule another team that sell out a large percentage of the seats.   Let Syracuse schedule their own games at MSG.  I know some on this board consider this thought process 'running away' from Syracuse, but I don't it is.  I think it's smart gamesmanship.    We have something valuable - why share it with a (sorta) local rival?

Funny that every story about the ACC playing in MSG quotes someone affiliated with Syracuse. The only other person is the overly ambitious commissioner Swofford---who is hell bent on crushing the Big East because he is angry about being inferior to the BE in the past 20+ years.  No one from Duke, Carolina or any of the other traditional ACC schools about wanting this.

In the previous 25 years, the ACC has won 8 mens hoops championships and the Big East 5 so not sure that "inferior for the past 2o years" is the best route to go...
