Love Bennett's game - but not sure he can play SF in the League - and he measured only 6'7 WITH shoes - even smaller than Derrick Williams (6'7 1/4 WITHOUT shoes) - and GMs haven't forgotten THAT blunder by Minnesota....

If ever a draft screamed trade down, this is it.

Problem is, it's unlikely many teams want to give much to trade up...

True. I just don't think there is much difference, talent wise, between say, the 5-10 picks and the 15-20 picks. You may be able to get a veteran, playoff team to trade up to get a missing piece. Like a Kawi Leonard type of player for SA, for example.

Example, would Boston trade a Paul Pierce ( expiring contract?) and the 16 to PHX so Boston could reload with an Anthony Bennett with the 5 and maybe another player or 2?

disclaimer-  totally off top of my head. No idea if this would even work ..cap wise..

Yeah you are probably right, and Danny Ainge is probably making those calls.  The Celtics have been working out/interviewing some really high end prospects (including Noel), so you may be onto something as much as I kind of hate it.

More likely you are dealing Pierce + one of Bradley, Lee, Bass, Sullinger (though Bradley and Sullinger will be MUCH harder to pry away from Boston) +  16 for #5 and a couple of guys Phoenix thinks is overpriced (Beasley, Frye, Dudley, someone like that).  As long as PHX is under the cap, I think Boston doesn't need to take equal salary back, and Pierce's 15/5 contract is very interesting.

Sullinger.  I remember that guy.  Does he play?

Not sure I understood your post (so hard to read tone on the net) but I don't think Bennett would need to be playing the 3. Why couldn't he be an undersized 4? I mean he is a pretty big dude.

As far as Williams, I would think its a bit early to be calling that pick a blunder, especially with his numbers trending up on a bad team.

Certainly not a bad pick.  And yes, he is trending up.   But (as will be with the Magic), he was the #2 overall pick.  Ther are 9 other players from that draft who've averaged more in scoring, 7 whohave averaged more boards - and his team is 57 and 91 since they got him.    He would have been a nice late first round value pick.  But a blunder as the #2 overall.   And Bennett, is a 35% perimeter shooter - Williams shot 57% from the arc in college.   Shorter, lesser shooter  - just not a good value pick at #2 overall.  He could be great - but if you're going on Potential (which is all you can do at this point), he doesn't have a single outstanding physical trait (incredible rebounder like Faried, incredible lenghht and height like Drummond.  Incredible shooting touch.   It's just not there.   At 240 he'soverposerd Mountain West opponents even tho less than 6'6 without shoes.  That's not LIIKELY to be the case at he next level.  COULD be, but not #2 overall kind of certainty.

I cant believe Otto Porter would go 1.

Weakest draft I've ever seen.

So what impact do you guys think this year's draft will have on Moe?   Can only help right?
Magic should be looking at a top 3 pick- so common sense would dictate he's probably looking at a good center prospect in Noel or a top guard like McLemore, right?

Can't see them taking another forward like Porter or Bennett.

Thoughts?

Really depends on what direction they go.  If they pick a two or a three, that could really hurt Moe's minutes and priority in the organization.  A center or a PG would probably help him.

Doubt picking a SG will really impact Moe.  Most sites refer to Vucecic, Moe and Tobias as the 3 that are constant.  Jameer is trade bait. Affalo is there at the 2 right now.

#2 pick is a tough place.  Trading down seems like a cop out but I would if I could.

I don't see how it couldn't hurt him.  Moe really fell into a perfect situation on an truly awful team. Look at what Harris did when he came over.  Harris was averaging 4.9 ppg and just 11 mpg in 28 games with the Bucks.  Then, he goes to Orlando, with nobody to take his minutes, and he explodes for 17.3 ppg, 8.5 rebounds, and playing over 36 minutes per game in 27 games with the Magic.  I don't know if Afflalo is staying, but the guy can play either the two or three and produces every where he goes.  Moe could easily get squeezed if they bring in McLemore.

Could be wrong and on the road so can't look it up right now, but didn't Kenneth faried measure out real small too? I'm sure if we would go back to his draft he would have been a top 5 pick if it was done over

  Bill Simmons ‏@BillSimmons
I predict Cavs + Magic flip 1 + 2 and Cavs get Mo Harkless. RT @ESPNAndyKatz: Cleveland continues to get a lot of calls on the No. 1 pick.

Not an expert but why would you trade harkless to move up one pick in a very weak draft.

Agreed.  I tweeted back to Simmons that it would be a steal for the Cavs, especially since there isn't a bona-fide superstar in this draft.

Moe Harkless would no doubt in my mind be AT LEAST at top 10 pick in this draft. Closer to top 5. So the Magic would trade the #2 pick and another top 5 pick to move up to get Noel. Stupid.

Coming out of college which 25 of these slugs would you have picked ahead of him before the end of round 1?

Honestly, there has to be more to that deal.  That just doesn't make sense.

Interesting thought - Mo signed for $1.7 Mil.   #1 pick Davis got $5.2 mil.   Over their Rookie Contracts, Mo will earn $8,324,000.  Davis will earn $23,198.00 (7 mil in the final year).

With what might have been a legitimate shot at #1 overall this year,  not coming back for a 2nd year could have cost Mo a LOT of money, if his 2nd contract isn't at least $15 mil a year!
