@rumbleSBN: From The Time Machine: St. John's and the Fordham Rams set to meet Saturday at MSG. #sjubb http://t.co/ZmNifKdP9r

If Fordham/STJ isn't a rivalry, SU/STJ isn't one either. Since 2001, Fordham has had more success against us, than we've had vs SU.

Faulty logic.  Meaningful games vs.  who really cares?

People care about both rivalries. You may not, but people do. I know I do.

So you put our "rivalry" with Fordham on the same level as long time conference mate and, arguably our biggest rival over the past 35 years, Syracuse?  Really?

No. That wasn't my point. I was referring to actual rivaling a team. We were once a great rival of SU. I wrote that since 01, Fordham has rivaled us more than we have rivaled SU. There are other things that go into a rivalry in NYC, that aren't available to outside cities. This is Queens vs the Bronx. It's the BE vs the A10. It's you got our scholarship vs we should house these chumps.

Well, put me in the "I don't give a rat's ass about Fordham" camp.

I can think of a circumstance that would change your mind.

It's true.   Especially for Fordham kids like Severe who might think they were snubbed by SJU.

Neither matchup is a rivaly at this point.

St Johns-Cuse, is a former rivalry.
St Johns-Fordham, is a never has been never will be anything but early season cupcake scrimmage.

Calling a game vs. an upper mid-major conference team, even if trying to work its way up in the conference, a "cup cake game", is the first mistake.  There are less and less cup cake games in today's CBB landscape, especially if trying to build up a stronger OOC schedule.

We should be used to that by now.

I agree.  Maybe if we were playing up to our potential, this might be a cupcake. The way we have been playing ,this game is far from a gimme.

Even up to potential, perish the thought of thinking of a team as a cupcake.  Not with how F.U. has played good in spurts.  They beat my alma mater (MC), so I take them seriously - lol.

Pre game chatter?

For sure, but Arbitello should be asked why the other D1 schools all didn't pursue after their initial evaluations? Pitt didn't offer him.

Told Arbitello is a bit out of sorts because Lav has not spent time at CTK. I am not being critical,  just sharing  what I was told by several folks in CHSAAS circles.

There were serious rumblings that he has never been to CTK to watch anyone.  Someone on Redmen denied that.  Who knows.

Non participation in local CHSAA events was also noted fwiw. As you said, who knows.

I've heard that he rarely if ever shows up at local high school programs....remember, he is recruiting nationally and must have lots of things to do, but still would be good if he put in a regular appearance at the 4 or 5  local programs who could be feeders for us i.e. CTK, Long Island Lutheran, St. Mary's, Our Saviour , St. Anthony's etc

Decent summary of Fordham, the team, not our JJ poster.  ;)

You think the fact that DLo and Phil would have two years left playing in front of Severe might have been a factor?  Maybe Lavin reached out and Severe wasn't interested.  The two spot wasn't really a need for us.  Obviously he could have picked a bigger program than Fordham but he chose a good spot for him.
