Only Criticism I have is the font on St. John's numbers. The 2s look way too much like 8s.

You have to get rid of that 19 inch Sylvannia

Oh come on the top of the 2 literally touches the middle part.

While our program is improving, our apparel is downright pathetic. Still have no idea why they have a f'n bird. It's dumb at shit, but we are.

The atmosphere was really good==whenever Excuse started a chant it was matched and the energy we has during the comeback and taking the lead was the best I have heard in a while.  Now if we can bring that enthusiasm in future games the lads will respond with great efforts.
I thought before the game that Fair would get his points which he did but that we had to hound/stop Cooney and Ennis; guess if you take C&E point total of 21 I am happy.  It is thanks to the job Harrison did on Cooney phenomenal job which may have contributed to Dangelo's poor shooting at the end as his defensive effort was 110%.  I also think we were hurt by Jakarr's 4th personal foul.  No replay at the Garden but it looked a little weak of a call.
Lastly this was similar to Penn State loss--being down/coming back only to be hurt at the FT line after being so good for the first 35 minutes.  Jakarr's double miss when down by 2 seemed to deflate the energy.

Just back. Disappointed, but;

We did compete & showed something coming back.

Jordan was psyched to go head to head with Ennis in second half & showed a lot today.

Lavin realized Greene was a liability and played right guys.

The farmers from Syracuse sitting near me were tolerable.

One criticism - Jakarr is a decent player, but does some silly things. That spin move into teeth of zone at crunch time & losing ball drove me crazy. I have seen Fair of Cuse really refine and expand his game over his four years. Time for Karr , albeit a Soph, to play smart and begin to do the same. Hope I am not being too picky.

I like our new uniforms and I think we're heading in the right direction with UA. It is hard to have a tradition with Redstorm because we have have sucked with that name. It is hard to build a fan base behind a nuke warm name and a losing record. Redmen is not coming back (but I'll continue to wish and pray for that) and honesty te bird mascot is the best of the worse...unfourtantly losing in heart breaking fashions make these minor annoyances that more intorable.

Another interesting thing is that I have not seen people rip Lavin so far, so does that mean he did a decent job coaching?

We really have to move on from the name, mascot and uniform issues.  It's all about winning games.  Fans need to come to games.  We could have easily put another 5,000 butts in those empty seats today.

If Lavin could coach as first half as he does in the second, we'd be undefeated.

If they can consitantly win and make the tournament those issues will be laid to rest. As long as we struggle and have unusual circumstances (coaches issues and scandals) these issues won't die because our glory years were under Redmen.

He doesn't get enough credit as an in game coach. Usually does a very good job making adjustments. I just wish we would come out with that same energy in the first half.

I say it in jest.  I'm not smart enough to pick apart Lavin's coaching moves the way some of our more knowledgeable poster do.

At the game today...Here are my observations sans replays (will watch the recorded version later)

1) Extremely proud of and encouraged by the team's effort. Contrary to the chronic whiners on this thread, team made a statement today and this is simply a case of the team "walking before it runs". This was the team's debutante ball - our 1st time on the big stage with a team that has expectations (not Wisconsin, not PSU). I told my buddy in 1st half, that they just needed to hang around until they figured out that they could play with these guys..Once the realized it, things changed...An undeniable positive
2) Jordan looked good and enjoyed himself today. Lavin, to his credit, recognized this and did not force Phil or Branch in 2nd half
3) Branch made some unbelievable passes that, with more assertive finishers, should have been buckets
4) The missed fouls shots were the turning point...it was a tug of war at that point and we let go for a moment
5) Was a bit disappointed that Sanchez was not more assertive...He had a # of opportunities to take it to the hole and looked around for someone else to give it to
6) Much improved zone offense with obvious attempts to feed the post...but need to anticipate the next move and not be as deliberate
7) Not gonna cry here because we were up 2 with ball and could have extended lead. But, just seemed that ALL contact was called on us and there were 3-5 instances where they got away with contact
8) Don't think 3 guard lineup was correct approach as they had 3 bigs for much of game...
9) As much as I would have liked Hooper to hit a 3 ball, the game was teetering and I think Lavin did not want to leave him in lineup for very long as he was going to struggle on defense.
10) I think the fan differential was not significant and I loved it when SJ crowd shouted down the "Let's go Orange" chant mid way thru 2nd half. Look forward to the day when we have 75% of MSG...
11) And to those who sold their "premo" center court tix -- shame on you...you don't deserve the tix

All in all, disappointed? Absolutely...Encouraged? Absolutely!!!

Good points. Do folks feel we can become a solid road team? We will need to do that to get those eleven BE wins we now may need to be in position to dance. To me the jury is out on that, but we'll see. Sure Hope so!

I walked out of MSG today about as upbeat as you can be after a loss. What a game! Practically the whole second half was edge of your seat, every-possession-counts basketball and our much derided crowd was as loud as Cuse's, despite being outnumbered 60%-40% minimum. SJU was the complete opposite of the team I ranted and raved about after the Penn St loss: for the most part they were poised, patient, prepared, smart, moved the ball pretty well. In other words, the experienced and talented team  we expected they would be. It sucks that they had it in their hands and lost, but there were so many positives which bode well for the rest of the season. If we continue on this trajectory, we are going to be dangerous in March and really fun to watch between now and then. Some observations:

The real Rysheed showed up today, on both sides of the ball. Right from the jump he just looked different...for me it was the first time I really noticed how big he is for a point. He attacked aggressively and under control and he did the best job of anyone in staying in front of Ennis.

Saw a few complaints about the halfcourt O, but I thought the plan was solid. We continued having our post guys turn and seal their men when the ball got into the high post, we got the ball to the baseline instead of just passing it wing to top to wing and back. We just missed some bunnies early and didn't take advantage enough of the D cheating up. ( This is where Obekpa's limited offensive skills really hurt us., as well as our total refusal to go over the top of the zone..the freakin alley oop was there all day after JKS hit a couple of foul line jumpers!!). D'Angelo and Rysheed penetrated well.

Sanchez played so badly today, a real disappointment after the Fordham game. Shooting was awful, decision making was bad. He could've been the difference today and he was a total non factor.

Shocked it took Lavs until the second half to go zone after Ennis was getting to the tin at will. Other than Cooney, Cuse isn't  a big three shooting team. Only 13 of Cuse's shots the entire game were outside the paint. Gotta think forcing them to shoot jumpers might've helped. That said, when this team really turns up the heat defensively the way they did for about a 5-8 minute stretch in the second half, it is impressive.

Last...I agree with Poison re selling tix to Cuse fans. If they want to pack the upper bowl with tix bout through Ticketmaster that's one thing. But I was freakin surrounded with orange today in a season ticket holder section...how does that happen? Put em on Craigslist and screen the responders instead of using StubHub. I'd rather eat my tix than sell them to those creeps.

Agreed on both.

BTW-I am really encouraged by Lavin's quotes.  No Pollyanna stuff from him.  He flat stated he and the team "expected" to win today and that he was real disappointed in the first 20 and last 4 minutes.  No "Hey we can build on this" or "We led the #2 team in the country with 5 minutes to play despite being down 12 at halftime and only making one 3."

Sort of reminds me of the those back to back weekend games back in January of 1999 against the top 2 teams in the country, Duke and UCONN.  At the end of the day SJU lost both but they clearly showed they can play with the best.

Need to tighten up things.  Disappointing because this could have been a big resume game but plenty of time left.
