If Lavin could coach as first half as he does in the second, we'd be undefeated.

He doesn't get enough credit as an in game coach. Usually does a very good job making adjustments. I just wish we would come out with that same energy in the first half.

I say it in jest.  I'm not smart enough to pick apart Lavin's coaching moves the way some of our more knowledgeable poster do.

I knew you were kidding and wasn't directing that at you, just a general observation

At the game today...Here are my observations sans replays (will watch the recorded version later)

1) Extremely proud of and encouraged by the team's effort. Contrary to the chronic whiners on this thread, team made a statement today and this is simply a case of the team "walking before it runs". This was the team's debutante ball - our 1st time on the big stage with a team that has expectations (not Wisconsin, not PSU). I told my buddy in 1st half, that they just needed to hang around until they figured out that they could play with these guys..Once the realized it, things changed...An undeniable positive
2) Jordan looked good and enjoyed himself today. Lavin, to his credit, recognized this and did not force Phil or Branch in 2nd half
3) Branch made some unbelievable passes that, with more assertive finishers, should have been buckets
4) The missed fouls shots were the turning point...it was a tug of war at that point and we let go for a moment
5) Was a bit disappointed that Sanchez was not more assertive...He had a # of opportunities to take it to the hole and looked around for someone else to give it to
6) Much improved zone offense with obvious attempts to feed the post...but need to anticipate the next move and not be as deliberate
7) Not gonna cry here because we were up 2 with ball and could have extended lead. But, just seemed that ALL contact was called on us and there were 3-5 instances where they got away with contact
8) Don't think 3 guard lineup was correct approach as they had 3 bigs for much of game...
9) As much as I would have liked Hooper to hit a 3 ball, the game was teetering and I think Lavin did not want to leave him in lineup for very long as he was going to struggle on defense.
10) I think the fan differential was not significant and I loved it when SJ crowd shouted down the "Let's go Orange" chant mid way thru 2nd half. Look forward to the day when we have 75% of MSG...
11) And to those who sold their "premo" center court tix -- shame on you...you don't deserve the tix

All in all, disappointed? Absolutely...Encouraged? Absolutely!!!

Good points. Do folks feel we can become a solid road team? We will need to do that to get those eleven BE wins we now may need to be in position to dance. To me the jury is out on that, but we'll see. Sure Hope so!

I think we can but I agree with you, we need to prove we can. I dont look at any team in this conference as unbeatable and believe we should contend for the Big East title

It's nice to have a senior like Fair who can deliver in crunch time. I was feeling a little sorry earlier today leaving the Garden because that game was there for the taking and I hate Cuse more than any team. Wanted it badly but you know what, they have absolutely clowned us for the majority of the last 7 years and today we didn't back down. Now we need to dish it out to other teams.

Nice job by Lavin today. Also kudos to D'angelo for his defense on Cooney. He could have easily sulked after his poor shooting start but he didn't. Really believe the 4th foul on Jakarr was a crusher he had it going offensively at that moment.

If I'm Dom, I would spend as much time as possible in the gym shooting 3s. Kid had to be on the floor for his def and hustle plays, but the Syracuse zone played way off him making it much harder for the guards at the top of the key get into the paint.

Great game to be at though. Kids played hard.

I'll say this"...... This team did not lack for effort today.  The coaches devised an excellent game plan, the defense was most adequite.  However, DLo 6-20, 1-7 from three?  There's your loss.  If your star player takes that many shots and is as inefficient as he was, say goodnight.

In the last five minutes or so DLo missed a few chances to dump it down to Dom  just outside the paint who could have driven and gotten fouled...or dumped it back into DLo if he cut throug the middle....think it could have made a real difference

Article was fair and was not a total rip job on SJU that the title implies.

As some have said, I also am sick of the SOB's who sell there tickets at the Garden every game.  The six seats in front of me are occupied by different folks each game--always rooting for the opposition.  Today included an Excuse bimbo who was on her I phone virtually all game.  At least I won't have to put up with Con's anymore.

They are not going to the NCAA unless they come out and play every game as hard as they did in today's second half.  They open up with two games on the road against Xavier and G-town.  These games are not much easier than what they faced today.  They better grow up fast, or they will be facing an 0-2 start.

The rankings are BS.  This league is very tough.  Nova will probably beat Cuse.

As much as I would like to blame the refs and say we were robbed, that is honestly not the case....We missed key free throws...It is a scary thought when we need to count on CO at the line. The fact that he hit one of two is all we can ask for.

Jordan defiantly had his coming out party today and was money at the line. Hopefully this loss pissed off JS, and Harrison  the right way and they work on becoming clutch at the line.

Sanchez seems to be over hyped at this point, good college ball player but not this dominant force that we hoped for.

I saw the rapid reaction on ESPN and saw Cuse fans whining about the game and saying that the article was one sided for the Johnny's...I would love to respond that's because Cuse is upstate and not NYC...There is a reason why so many Cuse fans run to NYC and and no Johnny fans goes to Syracuse (unless they are stationed with the 10th MTN)...We lost and being petty is not the answer...

The disappointment with this game is that there will not be another game hyped like this for awhile, but hopefully we can win along the way.

I didn't  blame the loss on the refs. They were bad both ways. But Ennis was throwing arm bars all game long at will. That's a fact

Great crowd at the Garden today. All the Orange fans around me were nervous that second half, you could see it in their faces. I even heard some fans say "Damm these guys are good". We beat the Orange if we see them again.

Star players make plays = CJ FAIR.
To me the kid could help a team in the league immediately. This is what STJ is missing, a guy who can come down and hit clutch shots with someone in their face. Kid came down the court and hit those shots with all the confidence in the world. Dom was draped all over him and he managed to make the shots.

CJ and the missed FT did us in. All and all very encouraged with the teams effort, we still have work to do but i feel confident going into BE play.

Let's not leave it up to the committee to select us or not on selection sunday. WIN THE BIG EAST REGULAR SEASON AND TOURNEY!! To me doing both is not far fetched.

I'm not one to blame the officiating, but there were back-to-back plays late in the second half where the refs no-called a blatant foul during a (I believe) Samson put-back...where he got rocked.  He made the bucket, but then they gave Grant an absurd continuation on a made bucket.  I mean, you have to be consistent.  How do you allow one kid to get shoved in the gut and a chop up top and the call a chippie 15 seconds later? They also called Dom on two relatively clean blocks that resulted in foul shots.

Some good nba team is going to get real lucky when they draft cj fair in the mid 20's. He'll never be a star but he'll be a good contributor.

3:14      Jerami Grant Defensive Rebound.   62-60
3:12      Official TV Timeout
3:00  C.J. Fair made Jumper.   64-60

Also - when you shoot 1 /15 from 3, you didn't earn a win

The team is showing a lot of potential but Coach Lavin is going to have to make a choice to cut someones minutes and he needs to get Hooper some more time on the court. You only need Hooper to make a couple of shots and when is out there, teams have to know where he is on fast breaks so he is not given wide open looks on run outs. His known ability to shoot the ball just makes teams think differently defensively and will open up the middle for penetration.

Somebody pointed this out to me at to game, but Fair has zero ability to go to his right hand, and I mean none.  We actually forced him right a ton in the first half, which was good scouting, but we're unable to stop some of his shots late.  Good player and good shooter.  Anybody who can force him to go to his right all game can stop him.  Like I said, we did s good job early but he killed us at the end,
