79-76 SJU, just because we're due, and our guys have probably spent all week gearing up to play the game of their lives, and the Cuse players, after a week off, will come in expecting to roll over us, as usual.

82-60 SYR:  CJ has 20 FTs and ends up with 35+ with none inside the paint.  All will be FTs, baseline jumpers, 3 pointers.

It was, I agree, an 80-20 advantage for us in the Pitt game.  G'town fans are about an even split.  They don't pack the place like Cuse does but they do neutralize the home advantage.  Nova brings in a large crowd but it isn't as large, nor as enthusiastic, as the other two.

The bigger problem is the empty seats that outnumber our fans.
We get good for a few years the fans of other schools not gonna want to come here any more. They get a little loud they be walked from their seats to their bus. We been down to long. This has nothing to do with who went to what school. New Yorkers love the game when played right. They ain't gonna scream and full the place up for teams that come out soft. We start playing the right kind of ball Spike and any hoop lover off the street gonna make this a unhappy hoops destination for college kids wanting to come into MSG and make fun of the Johnnies. SJU fans get a lot of help pulling for our team by people who don't care what the tickets cost. We good, we fly. We stink up the joint we die. Coach Steve knows what his job is. If he can't get it done, no point hanging around. I feel our guys might want it more Sunday. They must learn how to want any old game more. Then they must hate losing. Then they be good.

Hey Zim, you sound pumped for the game. Does it bother you when they lose?

After reading this I have to change my pick.
Orange - 104
Red - 58

I agree with you. I use to travel to Storrs, when I felt SJU could win the game. A lot of fans only travel when they think they are going to see their team win. If SJU ever becomes a power house, you will see a major difference in who shows up to the games.

Artest's 3 to tie the game against Duke was the loudest I've ever heard the place.

This is the only game that matters this season.  I'd trade losing out for a win on Sunday.

There is nothing worse on this planet than a Syracuse fan.

Uconn and Duke are just as bad.

I have had my worst experiences with UCONN fans by far. I think that is more because those games have been closer. The one Duke game I saw we were ahead a good portion and the Cuse games have been blowouts to my memory.

They come here. They eat our food, they drink our beer. They make themselves comfortable, and they beat the living hell out of us every time. I can't think of a more one sided "rivalry" in college basketball. Really, anywhere in college basketball? Can anyone?

But in fairness, we've got more experience than they do. They have one ball handler in the backcourt. It's time we came out of the gate and defended our home court. We want to be New York's Team? Let's stop announcing it, and let's man up and prove it.

If I may so add my few cents to this discussion:

One, perhaps very key aspect to this game that I'm not sure has been discussed yet:  The referees.  These should be big-east refs, so hopefully we'll get some solid home-cooking calls.  I'm hoping the refs hold a grudge against Excuse give SJU the benefit of the doubt on a every toss-up call.

I'm all for beating them fair and square, but getting some help from the zebras might not hurt.

Refs don't care who wins or what the score is.

Agree.  Interestingly enough we lead the series against Cuse at "home" 16-15 according to a tweet by SJU twitter guy.  Feels even worse since we haven't beaten em since 07'.  Time to let the player's games do the talking.  I'm tired of getting embarrassed in this matchup!

Which would work to our advantage. Game that we could feasibly win, in our city, which could excuse any questionable call they make. Wonder what the pay out on that would be.

Just reverting back to the '11 game vs Pitt, as a relatively young fan being at that game as a student that was like the first time I had ever seen that many Johnnie fans at the same place at the same time.
