Was a joke but that was the point. I think crowds in college influence the officiating more than any other sport. Unfortunately that is a advantage SJU has never really had.

Pro wrestling refs are the best.  They have to time that 3rd slap of the mat just right in order to let the guy that's pinned lift his shoulder.  Not to mention how they have to pretend not to see the villain put the foreign object back in his trunk.  How they keep from breaking down and laughing is beyond me.

and how they fall for the same tag team trick when one argues with them and the other guy comes in.  Man will they ever learn???

Seth Davis' kiss of death? Picks SJU by 63-60.

Syracuse at St. John's
I'm not quite sure why teams with this many athletes are playing so slow. According to kenpom.com, St. John's is ranked 274th in the country in tempo; Syracuse is 311th. It will be hard for the Johnnies to quicken the pace given that Syracuse freshman point guard Tyler Ennis boasts an assist-to-turnover ratio of nearly 5 to 1, but I have a feeling Steve Lavin's bunch is going to play with real purpose against an Orange squad that is due to get clipped. The bottom line is this: If you want to play in the NCAA tournament, this is a game you have to win.

I used to scream at my tv set as a kid, lol.  Vince McMahon has taken ridiculousness to another level.  I haven't watch in about 10 years since my kid stopped enjoying it.

How is that measured? How many seconds are on shot clock when you shoot?
If that was measured before Fordham game we were probably much worse.

AdjT - Adjusted tempo - An estimate of the tempo (possessions per 40 minutes) a team would have against the team that wants to play at an average D-I tempo.

If I may so add my few cents to this discussion:

One, perhaps very key aspect to this game that I'm not sure has been discussed yet:  The referees.  These should be big-east refs, so hopefully we'll get some solid home-cooking calls.  I'm hoping the refs hold a grudge against Excuse give SJU the benefit of the doubt on a every toss-up call.

I'm all for beating them fair and square, but getting some help from the zebras might not hurt.

Refs don't care who wins or what the score is.

Worst officials in sports
1. Professional Wrestling refs
2. College basketball refs
3. Pro Football Refs
4. NBA refs
5. MLB umps

Not surprising.  Basketball is by far the toughest sport to officiate.

True Story - About 8 years I picked against Seth Davis in the NCAA tournament and won 10 straight.

Anyone know a good bookie???

I think MLB umps are pretty terrible. They love to show players up and a lot of them look for confrontation, something you don't see all that much in other sports.

No but to make tournament you have to beat good teams. This is a huge game. We will know what kind of team we have after the game.

Exterior shots of freezing NYers outside MSG - Its cold outside but its warm in here - cut to Boeheim - as number two Syracuse takes on cross state rival SJ, down on their luck but resurgent, led by plucky Steve Lavin, cancer, dead father, wah wah wah, UCLA, Wooden, of course Boeheim needs no introduction, national champion, final 4 last year, another fine team this year, CJ Fair, Ennis. SJ counters with Harrison, bit of a head case, and Obekpa, leads country in blocked shots. Saint John's takes on number two ranked Syracuse at the world's most famous arena, madison square garden coming up next on Cee Bee Ess.

And then they rape us.

I think he's right that we'll play w purpose, but why doesn't know why our tempo is slow? My guess is he doesn't watch us. Greene, for better or worse has been the PG, and he doesn't run.

This is the game I would like StJ to win more than any other this year ... unfortunately I don't see it happening.  Syracuse will have a game plan, and we will play Jazz.  Orange 84 - Red 71

As a kid going to the Garden during the Mullin years, we had a "SLIGHT" advantage in fans over Cuse. They have a more rabid fan base and over the years of the programs going in opposite directions the percentage of fans has gone way over to the other side. Didn't think I was breaking some amazing story here. If the program starts making tourney's I think we should at least get back to 50 / 50 split.

Disappointing thing this past decades is that Gtown, Nova and even Pitt have more fans than us not to mention Duke when they come in. Probably nothing could be done about Duke and maybe not even Gtown, but as the program gets better possibly we will outnumber the Nova and Pitt fans at Garden games.

Nova, Georgetown and Pitt never had as many fans as SJU.  Not even close.  Sju fans always far outnumber them.   The only teams that have brought big numbers of fans are Cuse, Duke, and in the early 2000's uconn.

I went to the Hardy buzzer beater and I have to give that a 50 / 50 split unless I just happened to be in a section that was all Pitt.
Are you serious about Gtown? Anyone want to weigh in on that one? What is that stiupid Gtown chant?
And I forgot about Uconn, that is not even close.

You must have been with all Pitt fans because there is no way in hell that place was anything close to 50/50.  It was 80% SJU.  Pitt doesn't travel well at all and the ones who were there sat on their hands.

The culture of the students and the school need to change otherwise we will continue to be a big school that has a bunch of fairweather fans or depends on the city of NY to embrace us only when we are good, while most of those fans went to other schools and deep down pull for them just as much.
Agree...we outnumbered Pitt and I don't recall GT fans ever dominating the Garden
